We were hoping for something more from this small hotel. Nothing major wrong exactly but just not as good as we were hoping for, it seems that other reviewers had a more positive experience than ours.
Our communication with the hotel was a bit impersonal with several paragraphs in e-mails seemingly cut and pasted with what appeared to be no thought to some of our questions.
We had booked a standard room, which was spotless and well decorated. Our room was at the front of the hotel and we had a lot of road noise to contend with and a strong draught from an ill fitting window. The plumbing and sound proofing were also below par, noticeable with anyone in an adjoining room using the bathroom being clearly heard in our room, with the plumbing then rattling and clanking as the cistern refilled. Shower was pretty useless in the room as well.
The public areas in the hall and stairs of the hotel were not so well decorated although the hotel did have some nice friendly touches, DVD library available and the honesty bar in the dining room. The conservatory and dining rooms were however very nice.
Unfortunately the hotel is a little marred by the plethora of 'notices' posted around the hotel, warnings to do this, not to do that, guests are reminded etc.etc. ....... they were everywhere and created an unwelcome feeling, We were not made unwelcome at all, but perhaps the owners could re-examine their policy of posting instructions around the walls. I think I counted 6 warnings and instructions in our room alone.
We were going to have an evening meal and the hotel were happy to provide one and supplied a sample menu, but they were also good enough to recommend a local restaurant, which was what we ended up going for (see review for The Manor Restaurant- Greasby). We cannot therefore comment on evening food at the hotel. Breakfast was OK, Great fruit salad and good cereal selection but the cooked selection wasn't great, with dried up black pudding and bacon, and a bit mean on the portions.
Had this been a £35 per night B&B, my score may have been different but at £50 each I think it was overpriced for what we got.
