“No room at the inn !”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

My family and I have stayed in Looe for the past decade for the new year period and have commented how nice the Snooty Fox appeared from the road, advertising signage welcomes the passing traveller with 'Two meals for £9.95' and as we were seeking lunch on New Years day, we pulled into the half empty car park at approx. 1pm. Entering the restaurant we were collectively impressed with the comfortable and welcoming apprearance, one of our number noticed a sign indicating last lunch time orders at 1.30pm and we were by this time at 1.05 -1.10, no problem there then, tables were set for lunch in the bar area, without diners, a gentleman standing behind the bar, looked at us with a lost look about him, I explained that there was 14 in our party and he could see one infant, he stated that he was fully booked and was unable to receive us, no apologies, or offers for us to use of the bar facilities etc. cutting us dead! We were able to return to our vehicles and leave the premises within moments and were off the unfriendly site within ten minutes of arriving, We lunched in a very friendly pub in a close village The Copley Arms, Hessenford, who I would recommend. We felt the Snooty Fox should be re-named 'The Snooty B'stard.'

“Brilliant Service, even better food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

We recently visited the Snooty Fox, although out of season, the Manager made us feel extremely welcomed (even if he is an Arsenal supporter!).

The food was terrific, it was cooked to perfection and delivered piping hot. The staff knew when to appear at the table to clear away but did not appear intrusive at any point.

An must to visit again when next in the area.

“Appalling service, mediocre food.”

This review relates to the food side of the business. Staying locally we were encouraged to try the local businesses "every £1 spent locally is equal to £3 for the business". The outside of the Snooty Fox looked well tended and provided for. The lounge area was clean and nicely decorated. The menu read well. So you can imagine we were looking forward to a pleasant evening, what can I say a classic do not judge a book by it's covers!
We arrived without a booking but was informed they would be able to serve us, we ordered our drinks and were given menu's and invited to sit in the lounge/bar area. Whilst waiting we were informed of a problem with the oven, which was rectified, no problems there. I did note some people arrive and having not been able to catch anyone to serve them drinks leave, one group even seemed to be advised of another place to try by a customer! Eventually we were shown through to the restaurant, I pointed out that no one had been to take our order prior to being shown through never the less we had to leave the comfy surroudings of the bar area to go through to the restaurant. We placed our order only then to hear the people at the next table send back the fish dish my husband had ordered, we changed his order at that point! Our food duly arrived albeit in dribs and drabs, when we had finished our mains a dessert menu arrived, and whilst I was out of the room an order was taken for my husbands and fathers dessert. Jess the waitress knew she had to come back to take mine (although why a part order had be taken I do not know!) when I arrived back in the room she was busy clearing the plates away at the only other occupied table in the room, only 2 covers so not a mountain and in doing so entered into a conversation with them, 20 minutes later she had not finished this conversation, on personal issues only, nor cleared the plates away, and had made no attempt to come and finish our order despite looking up at us several times, eventually my usually mild mannered husband went through to place the order directly with the kitchen!! You might have thought that would have provoked investigation from the kitchen/owners as to why a customer had to come and place their own order, but no. In fact in due course a male member of staff came out and entered into a bit of banter with Jess.

We did not go back there, and would not recommend to anyone, I was ill during the night, I had had ribs and chicken, nothing like I would have expected from the menu. I do remember the people at the next table who sent back the fish being advised that "the owner is cooking tonight as the Chef is off"

Went I found someone to take my money for the bill, the same person who had spoken with my husband re the dessert order and therefore knew what our issues were, asked if we had enjoyed our meal, I commented then on the poor service and being ignored, Jess who was in ear shot did not apologise, neither had she earlier when she saw us chase to place an order. All in all a very poor experience.

“nothing special”

Nothing bad to say about the hotel so to speak but the way they did things we were not impressed by. Firstly they state on website that rooms are available from 12 pm, my boyfriend and i arrived just after 1pm to find our room wasnt ready and it would be up to half an hour to an hour wait. This wasnt particularly a problem as we just went into looe. The next day however, they again state on website, that check out is at 10.30. So it was 10.20 and myself and my boyfriend were just packing up when a knock comes on the door asking us to vacate the room! We politley say to them that it was only 10.20 and therefore we had 10 minutes yet, the lady proceeded to tell us that it was in fact 10.25 by her watch and that by the time we paid up etc it would be 10.30!!! So we were not impressed with this, not only was our room not ready for our arrival when they stated it would be, we were then asked to vacate the room - again before the time it states check out is. 1 of these things on their own would probably not have bothered us but to have both we thought was a bit cheeky - our room wasnt ready (which we didnt make a fuss about) but then we were basically thrown out aswell. And to top things off we were then charged twice for the room - which was sorted there and then but still. So nothing against the hotel per se, room was fine, nice and clean and i understand it is family run but if they cant cope with the turn around times of guests i suggest making your check in time later or check out time earlier instead of having rooms not ready and chucking guests out their rooms so you can get ready for the next ones. Not the way to get people to come back.

“Almost asked to move in”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 September 2011 via mobile

A beautiful country pub, restaurant and hotel in a gorgeous rural area not too far from Looe.

We were treated so friendly from the moment we arrived.. Karen, Stuart, Jess and the rest of the team are brilliant and fun hosts!

We were hunting for an iron and ironing board and they went and bought one as soon as they could! :)

Food was delish, everywhere was SPOTLESS! we enjoyed it so much we stayed longer than we'd planned.
!

Thank you for a lovely holiday xx
