Brilliant hotel. Excellent service. Great room. Lovely views. A meal that cost £ 56 that was shocking. At the end of the meal tehy said that my wife's starter course had received a complaint already and they thought that there had then been an error with the recipe. That's fine but it tasted as though an entire pepper mill had been emptied into the dish. The problem was that even though they knew that there as a problem with the dish they did not offer a refund of the £ 4.95 or a couple of glasses of wine- no recognition of teh fact that it had ruined her meal. Her pudding was also left for 25 minutes in a microwave and was dry. A shame as teh hotel is excellent and can not be reccomended too highly.

Have stayed here twice recently for 2 family weddings in nearby locations in Hambleton.

We stay at the Shard Riverside as often as we can, usually 3 or 4 times a year. It's our relaxing retreat from our busy working lives.

The staff are friendly, the rooms are bright and modern and the food's great (a nice combination of pub-sized portions with restaurant quality and cooking, and all made from local produce). Best of all is waking up to the view over the river. The view changes with the tide, the weather and the seasons, so it's never the same twice (I've attached a picture taken from the bedroom window just after sunrise in the middle of winter). If you're a birder, bring your binoculars and you can twitch in comfort from your bedroom window!

If you want to visit Blackpool but don't want to stay there it's only about a 10 minute drive from the hotel. I'd reccommend heading in the opposite direction and exploring Lancashire's villages and countryside - as pretty as the lakes or the peaks but without the crowds.

I feel we owe it to Paul and his staff to give the hotel a great review, but please don't tell everyone about it or there'll be no room for us!

An excellent friendly hotel with excellent food in the restaurant. Visitors will not be disappointed
