This is one of the most comfortable hotels you can stay in - from the warm welcome from the staff on reception to the wonderful, comfortable areas to relax on two levels, with luxurious seating and fires. We have stayed here before and will go back again, so what you may ask prevents a completely excellent review - well, a few things and nothing that could not be remedied. As other reviewers note, the bathrooms are very dated and the era of the plastic shower curtain that drapes itself around you in the shower should be well gone! Our bedroom however was more than adequate and had a partial view of the sea and the grounds (which could do with some planting). It was the food that disappointed as it veered from great to dreadful. During a three night stay, my husband had to return his scrambled eggs as they were inedible and I overheard another guest returning uncooked porridge. These are not difficult things to get right. Again, at dinner, there was a tough beef stroganoff and the fish of the day was gone at 8 p.m. although there were very few guests dining. At a cost of 38.5O for the table d'hote dinner, we were glad we were on an inclusive short-break rate. To be fair, the starter and the soup were very good, so again it would not be difficult to correct the impression we got. In fact, we did not see any supervision in the diningroom from any manager and the staff on duty were mostly trainees, so this may be where the problem lies. It says something about the place, especially the reception staff and the bar staff, that in spite of this mixed review, we hope to return.
