We booked for New Year's eve, having stayed in Galway City centre the previous night. The receptionist was very welcoming and managed that perfect combination of homeliness and 5* service from the moment we entered the hotel. Our room was old-fashioned luxury as were the various resident lounges.
We had booked dinner in town and having enquired about entertainment for the turn of the year we returned to the hotel around 10.30........ Major mistake. The "entertainment" showed up at 11.30. A gentleman who appeared to have retired from Butlins some years ago, set up his electric organ and would probably have been run out of your average village bar after he began to warble! The barman, obviously embarassed, suggested we might gatecrash a private party in the hotel function room but we thanked him and declined. We celebrated the new year watching tv in our room.
Can't comment on breakfast as we checked out rather disgusted the next morning without eating.
