I have stayed in the Brown Trout 3 times myself, with family and friends, and my husband many more times, If you are looking for a homely, caring, quiet, spotless, good food, excellent staffing, retreat then this is the place, I have never been a fan of timeshare but if they ever offer their cottages and the 2 interconnecting rooms for timeshare I will be at the top of the que. If I could guarantee the weather I would never go abroad again.

“a nice place to do very little and take you time doing it”

We went on a weekend break having been recommended by friends. location is rural but easily enough found. Check-in straight forward and friendly. Rooms are accessed via a covered courtyard. Rooms warm and large with good wheelchair access if required. Bathroom large and shower at the end in a wetroom type arrangement. Good powerful electric shower as well as a bath.
The hotel itself is quaint and cosy there are two or three open turf/log fires which were all roaring away when we arrived and even at breakfast time were lit. The smell of turf was ever present and it was lovely to sit and have a few drinks at the fire. Food was excellent - traditional and plain but obviously fresh and good quality. The cooked breakfasts were as good as I have had anywhere and by and large did us until the evening. Staff were friendly and helpful without exception. There was a "turn" on the Saturday night in the bar - bit of a throwback to the 70's admittedly but fine.
All in all a nice relaxed weekend which we look forward to repeating.

“Stay here, even if it's a little out of your way”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 August 2010

We were in NI without a fixed schedule and were looking for accomodation for the night. The Garmin, which is usually rubbish came up with the details and Kim answered when I called. We were very welcome and checked into a comfortable cottage on the Golf Course. I don't play golf but if I ever start I'll be back up here for a weekend.

We had dinner in the restaurant. Food and service were excellent. After Jury's the night before (which was terrible) the difference seemed great. We retired before the entertainment started but that still wasn't early. The room was comfortable and quiet. The place looked better (hard to believe) in the morning. The early golfers out and the wildlife hopping and flying through the trees.

Breakfast was excellent. Nancy is a fussy eater and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. We checked out and continued on to the Causway for another great day in NI. Nancy says "Your country is like a picture". Well the Brown Trout Inn is a picture in itself. A memorable one nights stay, I hope I get back to enjoy the hospitality there again.

“Laid back and lovely”

Brown Trout is a funny wee place. It's a bit like stepping back in time in terms of the decor but the service and laid back atmosphere more than make up for it.

The guest rooms are motel style and you enter through a nice leafy walkway.

Our room was huge with a very large bathroom. We had two very comfortable and luxurious double beds. Combined with the black out blinds we had the best night's sleep in ages.

We opted for the dinner, bed and breakfast deal and were amazed when we asked what this included. The reply was 'starter, main course, dessert, whatever you want and you don't pay extra for steaks'. All the food was good quality although the menu was a little limited and 'straightforward'. We can't complain though, we had no problem in choosing what to eat and we loved it!

I think the highlight of the trip was the breakfast! A really tasty and well cooked Ulster Fry! Of course there was a cereal / fruit selection but we chose to fill up on fried meats and breads! Yum.
