“Very friendly, great location, good breakfast”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

We stayed here overnight purely as we were eating in a restaurant locally and wanted a few drinks. What a great surprise the place was. We asked for the room with the 4 poster bed. It is a big room with a decent sized bathroom that has a full bath and separate proper shower. We asked for a bottle of champagne in the room on arrival. It was chilled with two glasses by it. The staff are really friendly nd helpful. Breakfast tasted like it was sourced locally. Brilliant sausage.
There are some nice cafes and a restaurant with a michelin star near by. Having tasted the brerakfast I'd give the food in the hotel a go next time.
We would definately stay the again.
The town is SO QUIET at night. No traffic noise. There is a clock in the square which chimes. It didn't bother us but if it is likely to bother you I guess asking for a room on the other side of the hotel would sort that for you.

Room Tip: We only saw thw four poster room but that was fine. It is not furnished like a holiday inn, it is a...

Your warm appreciation is very welcome - thank you. We pride ourselves on using the best of our excellent local produce so we're delighted that you enjoyed your breakfast with Rikki Lloyds's sausages and Fairfied Farm eggs. So pleased that the Town Hall Clock didn't disturb you but you'll no doubt be pleased to learn that at long last Montgomery Town Council has agreed to a 6 months trial of switching the chime off at night.

“a lovely place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 December 2011

We were made immediately welcome and felt at home. The hosts went out of their way to help us. The food was delicious and plentiful. Our attic room had character and was comfortable and clean. The children loved the swimming pool and the sauna.

Room Tip: Stairs can be a problem if you have mobility issues so ask about this.

Many thanks for your kind words and comments - very much appreciated. Our pool is always popular - especially with children but it is long enough for a bit of adult exercise too. Certainly stairs can be an issue here for some of our guests - anyone with mobility dificulties should let us know and we'll guarantee a 1st floor room as near to the top of the stairs (which have hand rails) as possible but unfortunately it just isn't possible in this 17th century old Inn to install a lift.

“small potions flat beer”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 December 2011

over rated,i.e. duck leg, not half a duck! £18.95 just not value local beers served good elsewere . The hotel was clean and tidy and the staff were friendly but prices over inflated, as they are in this part of the world there are better options around if you travel a little out

Thank you for your comments. I'm glad that you enjoyed the hotel and service but am dissappointed with your comments regarding the food and drink.

Having checked what I believe to be your bill I find that you had 3 pints of our local beer - so presume it can't have been that bad, indeed we follow the CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) policy of not using sparklers on traditional bitters - we serve what Americans call "warm, flat British beer" - we call it "cellar temperature, naturally lightly gassed,Real Ale".

Our menu states "Duck Legs" and a portion is 2 leg and thigh joints, together with fresh seasonal vegetables and potatoes included in the price (which includes 20% VAT). We don't advertise 1/2 a duck on our menu. As part of a three course meal this is normally more than adequate. I note that your review of "The Nags Head" also criticised portion size. If you would like 1/2 a Duck on a future visit please order in advance and we'll be delighted to serve it for you.

“Campbell Family from Australia”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2011

Living in Australia, we have seen delightful movies and Television series of quaint townships nestled among lush green rolling hills punctuated by craggy mountains, castles and forts. We have dreamed of seeing with our own eyes and experiencing for ourselves the true Great Brittain. With this in mind we selected for accomodation, The Dragon Hotel in Montgomery Wales as part of our itinerary , and it more than lived up to our expectations. The food was great, the staff very accomodating and the atmosphere supported by the house band was just what we hoped it would be. So obviously we will be back. Can't recommend this grand old gentleman of an hotel highly enough.

It must have been a Wednesday. The "Montgomery Irregulars" play Trad. Jazz, and much more in the hotel patio. We look forward to your return - we enjoyed your company and conversation. Many thanks - so glad you enjoyed your stay.
