My partner and I stayed at this hotel from 10th to the 13th February whilst attending a dance event.
The hotel was in a good location and very easy to find, it had ample parking facilities, though the surrounding gardens were badly churned up, and the car park and surrounding roads were heavily potholed. An awning around the hotel visble from the restaurant was badly torn and and looked very untidy.
We were greeted at a very busy reception and were dealt with in a very professional and efficent manner, the reception was very well decorated and presented and set a good impression.
We stayed in Room 202 which was quite large very clean, and comfortable, The bathroom appeared to have been refurbished recently and was exceptionally clean and well equipped. Though we were able to hear the lift machinery during the night it wasnt too much of a problem as I am a heavy sleeper.
The view from it's window yet again showed that the hotel is in dire need of external maintenance, the flat roof below was in a bad state of disrepair rotten wood being exposed and litter that appears to have been dumped by inconsiderate guests.
We prefered to use the stairs rather than lifts, the stairways had NO decoration at all, and reminded me of a poorly maintained municipal car park stairway; bare brick, concrete and wrought steel work.
The food and restaurant service was very poor in deed, on two of the three days we were there starters had to be sent back to the kitchen as they were cold (soup) this seemed to be in common with other guests who were there at the same time.
The food was very very basic and badly prepared, usually over cooked, and they frequently ran out of main course choices, a surly gentlemen working behind the counter who we subsequently learnt was the assistant manager is long overdue a customer care course having no respect or care for his customers. We were told that long queues were due to inadequate resourcing and that the guest numbers was unexpected, knowing how long the event had been planned this was a feeble excuse.
To summarise the hotel has potential once the external appearances are addressed and when the entire Kitchen staff are replaced with professional chefs and not just bulk order cooks.
