If you are going to stay in Brora in my opinion there is really only one choice of accomodation:The Royal Marine hotel. It's a big old building near the golf course a couple of minutes walk from the sea shore; one slight downside is a lack of direct sea views. However, you may find yourself accommodated in the nearby apartments, which are part of the hotel, which overlook the sea.
It has an old school charm and a slightly "clubby" feel. Don't expect anything cutting edge in terms of design or service. If you fancy a bit of pampering there is a spa area on the ground floor with a small swimming pool, sauna and steam room.
The Garden Room is a popular place to eat with both hotel guests and the locals. It's an informal space which has a modern, contemporary feel which is a nice contrast to the very traditional vibe of the other hotel rooms. If the weather is nice there are a few tables outside where you can take your lunch or just enjoy a cold refreshment. It's not cheap but it won't break the bank either and you will get decent produce which has been skilfully prepared. Unfortunately there is not much of interest on the wine list or the beer selection.
Brora itself is a nice spot and a good base from which to enjoy this part of the country. If golf is not your thing there is still plenty to do, with lots of interesting places to visit nearby. If you like walking I would recommend a stunning stroll along the beach to Golspie and a return through the lovely countryside via Loch Brora - you will not be disappointed!!
