“Does the job.”

Stayed here overnight after attending a party in Milton Ernest. The hotel is on a main road but our room wasn't on it ( Room 4 ) . The room was decent and most definitely worth the £55 pounds B&B rate. Breakfast buffet was short of the pastries & muffins ( as advertised on the breakfast menu in the room ) but had lots of cooked options to compensate . I had eggs and bacon which were fine though I prefer my bacon a bit more cooked and my fried eggs less greasy but that is down to taste ! The person running the hotel was friendly and helpful.

“Happy Surprise”

On approaching the hotel we were worried we had made a huge mistake. We'd had a nightmare journey trying to navigate through Bedford (must ask Santa for a SatNav next year). The hotel seemed in the middle of nowhere and situated on a busy main road. As it turned out we could not have picked a better hotel to stay in. Our room (room 2) was spacious, clean and well equiped and fortunately not overlooking the main road so nice and quiet as well. Electric panel radiator in bedroom meant we could have the heating on when we wanted it, not when the hotel dictated it, which was very pleasant at this time of year. Bathroom was adequately furnished with a shower much better than the one we've got at home. As previously mentioned in a review there is a book in the bedroom (The Importance of Milton Ernest) written by a local man which tells the history of Milton Ernest and is a fascinating "easy" read covering everything from very early history to witches to the theories surrounding Glen Miller's death.

We ate in the restaurant each night and the food is absolutely superb. Excellent choice, all perfectly cooked and reasonably priced.

On exiting the hotel if you turn left you pass some beautiful old cottages and it is just a short drive (or walk) to Milton Ernest Garden Centre which has a lovely cafe (as well as a good choice of plants and gifts).

The highlight of our trip was a visit to Bletchley Park. Absolutely fascinating and we spent a good 5 hours there. Highly recommended.

Bev, the manageress, runs a very friendly, efficient hotel and all staff welcome you as friends rather than guests. Lovely lady also helping Bev out. Bev said when we departed that she hoped she would see us again soon and we certainly hope that we will have the opportunity to return in the not too distant future.

Room Tip: Ask for a room which doesn't overlook the main road

“Welcoming stay at the Queens Head”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 December 2011

You will get a very warm welcome at the Queens Head with very reasonable food and room prices. We had to move from the first room because of a stuck window but that was not a problem for the staff as they found us an alternative without fuss, the room was very big with a large bed and clean throughout though our room would benefit from a new shower curtain. The food in the restaraunt was tasty and reasonably priced with lots of options for vegetarians which was great to see as some other places are often unlikely to offer more than one choice. One downside was the bar area didn't have too many places to sit for a drink before dinner as it was set up for diners which was a slight disappointment. The breakfast was excellent both days we stayed and the staff are friendly, attentive and happy to advise on trips out. I recommend Cambridge which is about 45 minutes away - so worth a trip but use the park and ride. The Queens Head is in a village but on the main road to Bedford so there is traffic and is not like being in a sleepy village - however, the hotel is warm and friendly and we had a very enjoyable stay.

“Warm, Welcome & Comfortable Stay”

We stayed for 1 night during October 2011. The rooms were clean & comfortable & the village location makes for a frendly atmosphere. The bathroom was fine (a little small) but with an excellent shower & again it was clean and had everything we needed.

The restaraunt has a comprehensive menu, serving good quality food. The service we received was very good, the staff were attentive, friendly & helpful.

A lovely village Inn.

“You will find a warm welcome here.”

We spent one night at this hotel, arriving quite late in the evening, we received a warm welcome from Bev and was given a very good sized en-suite bedroom. There was an interesting book available in the room to read about the history of the village The room was clean and comfortable. The breakfast the following morning was freshly cooked and served by Bev, who again gave us a cheerful and friendly service. We learned that each year, there is an event to celebrate the music of Glenn Miller which is so popular that the hotel is almost fully booked for the event late next year already. We would recommend this place to stay if visiting this part of the UK.
