The Plough is what appears to be a former village pub which now I would describe by the modern idiom of 'Restaurant with rooms'. It has a stereo typical village pub look with an open plan ground floor dining area. Decor is stone flags, open fires, distressed wood furniture. It has a warm comfortable welcoming feel, this is accentuated by the owners (particularly the female half of the partnership).
Accomodation is on the first floor and comprises individual rooms continuing the country style.Nicely done, I think by looking at it slightly with one small eye on the price, but never the less, comfortable, well equipped and clean. I have stayed in mainstream hotels paying a lot more that do not meet the quality of these rooms.
The main reason for our visit was new years eve dinner. This consisted of a 10 course taster menu. The food was, imaginative, inventive, presented and served wonderfully. Make no mistake about it the young staff responsible for the kitchen are seriously proficient at their trade. The young people responsible for serving it were pleasant, polite, witty and efficient. The price was extremely reasonable given the night we went for, and represented excellent value for money. We had eaten at the Bar and Grill in Leeds the night before and paid the same price per head for steak and chips.
As with all my reviews I do not recommend a particular establishment, as your tastes may not be mine. However I feel that the above is a fair reflection of my stay there and will I go again, absolutely.
