My family and I stayed at the Hotel Lorze (pronounced "lortsay") for two weeks. The reason for our choice was the need for easy access to Zug.
The Lorze is a small business hotel: three storeys and under forty rooms. It is located centrally in the town of Cham on the "Dorfplatz" (ie. Village Square) which is actually a very modern civic plaza with theatre, gallery and library. The architectural style is "swiss modern functional", rather plain and severe. Business people patronize it because it is easy to get to Zug either by car, train or bus. Our standard rooms were adequate for a three-star hotel. The suites are very nice indeed. There is free car parking in the basement. The rooms are kept very clean every day. The staff is very pleasant and helpful. The breakfast is a typical cold buffet.
Cham is not a tourist destination but a pleasant dormitory town with some light industry. The beautiful "Villette" park and Zugersee lake are only two minutes walk away and the whole area is very beautiful. There are shops, restaurants and banks close to the Lorze. Swiss law requires shops to close early on Saturday evenings and all day Sundays, which is why the place appears to be deserted at times. If you need something on Sunday the "Avec" convenience store at the railway station is the only place open. The locals enjoy healthy outdoor leisure pursuits ie. cycling, walking and swimming in the lake. We found Cham and the Hotel Lorze to be very pleasant and very quiet.
It is hard to quantify "value for money" because everything is expensive here.
