Mediocre at best!!
If you want to stay at an Hotel that offers low quality services, yet no service to the guest, then this is the hotel for you!
Having worked in the hospitality industry for over 27 years, I have had the privilege to have been Hotel Director to two of England’s most prestigious privately owned Hotels.
I have travelled the world extensively living abroad for some 17 years in 4 different countries; my current positions of International Hotel Consultant and notable Food Critic are both well respected amongst my peers.
The only positive thing I can mention are the reception staff and the housekeeping for their politeness, perhaps the female manageress I encountered would like to look to those members of staff for her own personal training!!!
Politeness is something this unfortunate “lady” (I use this word loosely) does not have.
We were guests staying for 2 weeks in a “Modern European 3 star Hotel”, once checked into the hotel one would expect certain things to come as standard such as Tea and Coffee making facilities. Sadly this is something this Hotel feels that the “Modern Day Guest” should not have !
In the Managers words ”it’s Only a 3 Star Hotel,we don’t have to and we don’t do that in Malta!!!!” Further ignorance and impoliteness ensued from this unpleasant female for a few more sentences (which I chose to ignore)
I kindly informed this uneducated and untrained “Manager” that even 1 Star Hotels and Guests Houses offer such amenities now that we are in the 21st century.
Unfortunately this manager’s attitude prevented us from spending any further money or to sample any of the limited food services the hotel offered (Which to be honest reading the reviews written about their food we haven’t missed much!!) or their so called leisure they offer!
Leisure is a joke, 10 Euros an hour for a sauna (this should come with a health warning! the gym if you would like to call it that and finally the Jacuzzi which was out of service for the whole 2 weeks!!!
Not to mention should you wish to watch your 14in TV in the room you have to rent” Yes” rent your TV’s remote control , you have to pay reception a 10 Euro Deposit !!
The only thing ECO about this hotel, is that in the two weeks we were here bleach arrived in the lavatory on day 8, our beds where changed a maximum of 4 times (I think it was only 3 as I had to pull the sheets and pillow cases off personally to make sure they were changed but I’ll give them the benefit of 4)
The noise in the bedrooms was at th very least annoying I think they have tried to be too economical with the content of the walls as these are paper thin and you can hear everything from the rooms next door and across the corridors!
Needless to say had this not been a last minute trip booked by friends I would most certainly of checked out, as it happened It did get too much to put up with, so I booked into the Hotel Phoenicia for several nights !!! It was a completely different world one which i had to be pried away from !!!
The General Manager needs to realise, rather than offering his guests a “FREE PIZZA” for every positive review you write for his hotel (which is handed to you on check in) he needs to address fundamental issues such as Hospitality.
The simple solution I put to the General Manager is this: have your staff be hospitable to the guests, have all managers trained with interpersonal skills not to mention manners. Look at ways of making the guests experience one of comfort, try to exceed the guests expectations .
Offer your guests an upgraded room, one with a beautiful view of Valletta should you have the availability (rather than stick them in a dingy side room for 2 weeks!!!)
Knowing as I do, many of your seafront rooms where available throughout our stay, why not offer an upgrade? Either complimentary or for an additional fee.
Had the choice been offered it would have made all the difference to our stay.
But credit where credits due the two male reception staff and the one female went out of their way as did the two night porters "Thank You"
I hope others fare better than I
