Myself and two friends stayed here on our way back to Zeebrugge at the end of a 7 day motorcycle tour of the Alsace region of France.
We parked up in the small car park at the rear of the hotel and went inside, first impressions were not great, very stark bare corridor and a reception desk and the furniture in the small adjacent lounge that looked as though it had come from a car boot sale gave an impression of a boys borstal school, kind of minimalist so there's less to smash up.
We checked in and were given room keys, I got a room overlooking the car park, the room itself had an old worn out laminate floor and all the paintwork was bashed and dirty, the bathroom had one dingy light bulb in it and only a stand-alone type plastic shower, with no hook for the shower head so you had to hold that with one hand and wash yourself with the other as best as you can, trying to do all this in almost darkness as the aforementioned "Dingy" light was outside of the shower cubicle!
After drying myself on a 15 denier towel ( very thin in other words! ) we set off around the village to find a restaurant for something to eat.
About 30 mins later the only things we'd stumbled upon were a burger bar and a takeaway pizza shop, this place reminded me of an old mining village that was slowly dying on its feet, virtually nothing happening anywhere, by 8:30 pm there wasn't a soul about anywhere.
So rather reluctantly we ended up back in the hotel restaurant to eat, in all fairness the meal was better than expected, a decent steak followed by "Isle Floatant" - Marshmallow in a custard sea.
When we payed for the meal we were also asked to pay for our rooms which sounded as though they thought we were going to do a runner or something and when you consider our age ranges were 53, 54 and 64 we could hardly be classed as juvenile delinquents!
Breakfast the next morning was a typically low budget affair, you were poured one small glass of orange juice, had one croissant on your plate and one portion of jam, no help yourself buffet or meats of any kind.
We paid 88 euro's for the nights stay and meal which wasn't bad value to be honest, but we really wouldn't want to stay here again, we passed through a village called Charleville-Mezieres about six miles back and that looked far nicer, some good restaurants, hotels and more people strolling about, just looked more alive and bustling, I would recommend you to try there instead.
