“Nov in Monte Carlo”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 December 2008

Booked as a last minute 3 day getaway and having read reviews, were rather dubious. Found the hotel to be very clean, although in need of some refurbishment, bedding and towels changed daily. Breakfast was plentiful. All staff courteous, some more helpful than others. Position of hotel obviously not 'prime' but we had no difficulty in accessing all areas. There is a lift only 3 minutes from hotel which takes you to Place St Devote on the seafront, to walk was probably a good 20 minutes.
Hotel definitely worth using if you wish to visit Monte Carlo and are on a budget.

“Beyond Rude”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 August 2008

The hotel receptionist/manager was beyond rude. We were two adults traveling with our child- he told us it was "NOT POSSIBLE" for us 3 to stay together. We offered to pay a fee for the extra person or for another bed OR even for another room, but those were not options. He told us to go find another hotel, but wouldn't tell us where to look. He told us to call our booking agency, but wouldn't let us use the phone. We were left with none other option than to leave the hotel.

“PRICE PROBABLY THE BEST THING”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 May 2008

My husband and I stayed at this hotel as he was working on the Grand Prix (and most of the hotels were booked up). Because it was Grand Prix week-end the lift closest to the hotel was closed and the nearest lift we could get left us with a very steep climb (not ideal when you are an asthmatic!).

Our twin room was on the 4th floor and was very small (although the bathroom was quite spacious, but with no bath and a very tiny shower cubicle, which was quite grubby). It had a double wardrobe, desk and fridge. It was very dark and the flooring was a kind of nylon woven matting (not very comfortable).

The bar/breakfast room was rather 'canteen' like with unappealing furnishings and the breakfast did not impress us. There wasn't a huge choice and one morning we arrived about 30 minutes before breakfast finished and the ham was dried up and curling at the edges. My husband did eat at the hotel one evening before I arrived and the food was very nice, and he tells me that the bar was not over priced either.

There is a very slow lift which, when we were there, broke down (even worse for an asthmatic when you have just done the steep road climb and you are on the 4th floor :-( ). On the web site it boasts a roof terrace, but if you did not know that before you went you would not find out from the hotel. There is no indication at all. Only if you get out of the lift on the 5th floor do you see a sign. I think because many people are not aware of it and so do not use it, it has been left to deteriorate.

All in all, I suppose if you wanted to go to such an opulent place as Monaco on a tight budget, this hotel is fine. But if you are treating yourselves. it would be worth going for something a bit pricier.

“Really nice staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 May 2008

The Hotel itself is very clean and comfortable and the rooms are more than adequate for travellers. What gives this hotel a 4 instead of a 3 is the really nice staff. I got to check out at 5pm. Plus for that internet wifi acess and a nice french breakfast is included.

Location is not the best and don't be fooled: the hotel is situated in France, about 100 m from the Monaco Border. It is very close to the super fancy Monaco Train Station, by walking through the station you have a good 15 min walk to the port, otherwise 30 min.
