My husband and I stayed at the River Tides bed and breakfast during a recent visit to Newfoundland. We were on our way from the east coast of the island to the west coast of the island and were definitely in need of a relaxing atmosphere after a long day of driving. After a tentative drive down a long, poorly maintained road, we turned onto a gravel driveway and drove up to a sweeping, meticulously maintained property, right on the water. We parked by the huge yellow house and were greeted by the owners, Bev and Ron.
We like to stay in nice places, but this spot was off the charts. Beautiful, immaculate home, with all the special touches and more windows than you can count. Bev makes all her own pillows / window coverings and her home is crisp, bright, and sunny. We were shown to our room, with private bath, where we freshened up before sitting out on the back deck with Bev and Ron for a few cold beers. The scenery was lovely - right on the water, with local wildlife and a path down to the shore.
We were in bed by 9pm and slept like the dead. We woke up the next morning and ate a delicious breakfast (complete with Ron's fluffy eggs). He doesn't add milk to his scrambled eggs, you see, just a splash of water, like Martha Stewart. I hope I'm not giving away any state secrets - but we now do the same at home! Bev's banana bread was amazing, all served with home-made preserves and on a hand-made quilted tablecloth. In fact, Bev sells her quilts. They're so lovely that I recommended she sell them online (and I hope she does!).
We were sorry to leave and hope to be back some day. This spot definitely stood out as one of the best during our trip and I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a peaceful and relaxing spot for a night - or five!
