“AWFUL breakfast”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 August 2010

We ate here for breakfast and the food was terrible in spite of the expensive price- cheap sausages and bacon and tesco value style bread for toast. The marmalade was almost black and crystallised with sugar- the jar was half empty and must have been opened for months. The "fresh fruit" was a small bowl of tinned prunes and a bowl containing two oranges and a shrivelled apple!

Service was slow. The experience is not to be repeated!!

“Excellent Food, beautiful setting”

I'll start by saying this is my boyriend's and my favourite restaurant in the area. We have only visited to dine, but I couldn't find a restaurant listing for it, so have put it under the 'hotel'. The food is superb, and we have had some of the best meals we have ever eaten here. We visited last week, and, as usual, it did not disappoint. Both of our meals were delicious, and my boyfriend's pork was outstanding. All their meat is local, everything is fresh and there is precise attention to detail. Desserts are handmade locally and it really shows. Service is friendly and they are very happy to help you choose suitable wines and discuss ingredients. We can see why it has food awards. They are also quite attentive and leave just the right amount of time between courses.

It is fairly pricey by ub standards - we paid £65 for a shared starter, mains, desserts and a couple of drinks. Even though it's a bit more expensive than a run of the mill pub meal it is worth every penny - the quality speaks for itself. To top it off, it's in a beautiful location surrounded by countryside. Try it and you won't regret it.

“What a lucky find!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 August 2010

We were searching for a place to stay in Petersfield and found The Trooper Inn in laterooms - it was a find because there is not many options in Petersfield (only a Premier Inn which was full, one pub which was full and another pub way out of town which we didn't like). We didn't see one B&B sign anywhere! Well, took us a while to find The Trooper Inn as it is not actually located in Petersfield but 3 miles out of town towards Steep. The pub is very interesting, the food is very good, the price is reasonable and the service excellent. It was a fantastic find... the only snag is that is located in the middle of nowhere but not always this is a bad thing! I strongly recommend one night at The Trooper Inn after a tasty meal and few drinks. The rooms are well appointed (although not spacious), the bathroom is big and the rain shower is fantastic. The full English breakfast was delicious and freshly cooked. I will certainly return there if passing by the area.

“Fantastic!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 July 2010

I have stayed at The Trooper a few times now, and I cannot speak highly enough of this fabulous hotel and restaurant. The staff are welcoming, friendly and nothing is too much trouble. The rooms are a delight, beautifully decorated, with those overlooking the gardens a treat, the beds very comfortable. The Trooper is an easy drive from Petersfield, and 5 minutes drive from the A3. A good selection of real ales, beers and wines, chat in the bar with the locals who are great company. The dinner menu has wonderful choice, fresh and local ingredients, all of the food is beautifully cooked and presented, and the breakfast is one to look forward to! Only one fault - they need a newspaper boy from the nearest village to deliver the morning papers!!!

“Fantastic - lovely host, beautiful place and superb food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 February 2010

Although the owner was not aware of my booking - I had booked through laterooms.com he was very welcoming and not at all put out. He apologised that the room was cold as we were not expected but immediately put the heating on. The room was very clean and tastefully decorated. Service was impeccable and the food was great. Loved the ecclectic mix of art. The only gripe was that even with the heating on, the whole place was very cold that night but by the next morning everywhere was warmer.
