“good stay for a good price”

Nowadays a trip to Iceland is much more affordable then a few years ago. Normal prices, similar which we have in Holland. Via the reviews I spotted the BB44 guesthouse, located so nearby Reykjavik that it is only 10 minutes to the centre. Especially the package deal, room including a car, triggered us. We drove a 4 wheel drive (needed in Iceland if you want to have a little more adventure), a very nice and comfortable car and if you are looking on the internet for such a car than you will find them for double price, so we were quite keen on this. We had a very nice room incl. bath and toilet. I recommend to ask for it specific if you really want this because there are also rooms without these facilities, than you find it in the corridor besides your room. We had a very busy program planned for ourselves, the weather was good, so 7:00 we were taken breakfast. Sigga, the host, will take care that there is fresh coffee and you can take your own breakfast. Directly after breakfast we went away for the whole day, picking up some bread rolls at the bakery nearby for our lunch and a supermarket is right on the next corner. BB44 has wireless internet and also a computer available, we checked the weather, which is very hard to predict in Iceland, and planned a long ride on the south shore to Jokulsarlon. Unforgettable.... and around 21:00 were we back in the guesthouse and we used the hottub to ‘recover’ from the long day and talked about all the amazing things we have seen. Sigga has been very helpful to make our small holiday into a big success!

“Superb”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2009

Very charming B&B, Sigga was wonderful! Children loved it, we were in a cottage apart from the house, our daughter loved the pet bunny! Jacuzzi, 2 available kitchens with a supermarket a few blocks away. Internet availability, and wonderful breakfasts in the morning. Sigga was extremely helpful and gave us superb advice! Would stay again in a heartbeat!

“The worst service I've ever had”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2008

We decided to stay in that Bed&Breakfast during our trip in Iceland because it was cheap and had a really profitable pack of staying and car hire. I know what is a budget hotel and what to expect when I'm low cost traveler. But BB44 offers by far I worst service I've ever had. The room was a budget room, nothing special, and quite clean, but in a place with 22 hours a day sunlight at least you expect some thick curtains...!!!

The main problem was with the car. We hired an automatic car to make the circle of the Iceland. On the second day, in the middle of nowhere, car started to make some strange noise when I was pushing the brakes. For our good luck, it broke down in Eggilstadir, the village we were planning to pass the night. We gave a phonecall to the Hotel owner and the only thing he told us was that when we took the car it was ok and that we were responcible for the damage because i don't know how to drive an automatic car!!!! For god's shake!!! Fortunately, the owners of the BB in Eggilstadir where very helpful and arranged everything. Of course we were not responsible for the car as the problem was bad service. The brakes weren't screwed on the disc brake and they were dancing in the wheel...

We were really lucky as we could have been killed!

“Wonderful host, good Vaule, get rental car at BB44”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 September 2008

I'm not a fan of B&B's but this place was wonderful for my needs. The host was very nice and helpful, that alone made this place the place to stay. The price per night was very attractive. There are 2 houses, and we were in the "2nd house" the room was a good size, with a shared shower and bath. There was never a problem on shower lines, and the house was fully booked. The rooms were clean! The also rent cars, and a very good price, and very nice car.. The price for a week was a little less then 2 days of renting at the airport. From KEF airport, i took the fly bus to the main station, were the BB staff picked me up. The love their wonderful country, and helped us plan our week. Part of the tip was to drive the southern coast of Iceland. A must do... Clean safe and good price!

“Loved BB44”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 August 2008

Very friendly and helpful couple . The landlady Sigga saved my life as I checked out of my room at 3 pm, thinking I would catch the 3.30 flybus but to my surprise the next one was at about 9 pm!

Sigga promplty raced me off to the last stop before Rekjavik Airport (Viking Guesthouse?) and due to her kind consideration I got the bus !

This is level of kindness and helpfulness is something you would very rarely get from a B&B in the UK!

Breakfast was nice, room was nice, service was excellent. P.S If your doing all guided tours the distance is not a problem as most operators will pick you up from your B&B. There is a supermarket near by which cuts the costs and also a bus into town only cost £2.
