Camigliatello is essentially a ski resort, but also a great base for exploring the mountainous Sila national parks of Calabria. Although not on a scale to rival the National Parks of the Sierras, if you love forests and mountains you'll love this area which is as yet relatively
undiscovered by foreign tourists, with most visitors to the area being Italians from other regions.
The hotel bills itself as a 4 star establishment, but its really more like a good 3 star. The staff on the front desk speak enough English to book your room and help with simple enquiries, but not really enough to hold a conversation. My room was on the top floor and had a balcony which was nice, although the view was a bit industrial in the foreground. The hotel was very clean and the bed was very comfortable and topped with a clean, new down comforter/duvet. The ensuite bathroom was clean and functional but rather dated in style. The room had a TV but it showed only Italian terrestrial channels.
The restaurant in the hotel was above the standard I would have expected in this hotel and my waiter was not only fluent in English but had also worked for a year in one's of London's finest hotels, Claridge's. All in all a very pleasant dining experience.
Negatives were the common problem of noisy marble floored corridors, the garage and spa area being non-functional due to reconstruction, which was irritating as I'd chosen the hotel for its whirpool spa and was looking forward to it. If it matters to you ask before you book if its functional.
Overall, recommended as comfortable and good value in the 3 star class with the added advantage of good food in house.
