“It served a purpose!”

Accommodation was booked through the central hotel booking service contracted to my profession. The hotel was easy to find, just off the main transit route Andover - Salisbury. The car park was ok, though difficult to pull a large suitcase across the large pebbled area. Check in was swift. Room very basic, but had everything you needed; that said, the TV provided only terrestrial channels and the front of it was damaged. The food: Breakfast was of the just ok buffet standard. Dinner was of the type you expect in an extremely cheap cafe! The Chicken Kiev was hard and crunchy, made from mechanically removed, reshaped, reformed chicken, similar to the 'four in a box for 99p from Iceland"; edible, but only just!

The service was ok, some of the waiting staff were very friendly and accommodating, others gave the impression the guest was an inconvenience.

And finally, I left some personal property behind in my room when I left. I'm sure I'm not the only frequent traveller to have done this on occasions. I contact the hotel to ask if this could be returned and that I was happy to foot the bill for the postage. I'm still waiting over a month after my stay!

The only good thing about this hotel was, it was only a mile and a half from where I was conducting business!

Would only stay here again if I did not have a choice!

  • Liked — It was close to where I needed to be.
  • Disliked — It was vry expensive for the service received - far too basic

“give it a miss...”

Stayed at the Hotel through Army booking system, I had a room upstairs at the back do not accept this at all costs which were very high!! the widows were gruby old and dirty with a collection of flies at the ready. The carpets stained beds as described before looked something out of a youth hostel with a duvet that would just about cover you!! the room was very cold and i was offered a heater this probably because of the draft that came through the windows.
The rooms are very basic old tvs remote not working bathroom was very gruby, the food was overpriced and the owner seemed to be very aloof when asked or a problem mentioned, no sky channels, overall there is better hotels in the area the Portway just before Andover at lot less pricey brand new with luxury rooms and superb food highly recommended, also closer to DLO. I would def not stay or advise anyone to stay at the Red House unless you are expecting to pay over the odds for what you get back in return

These comments along with your demand for a free of charge upgrade have been dealt with by the Ministry od Defence booking agency.
I am very surprised that you found the need to repaet these unfounded allegations against our hotel repeated here.

“Average hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 February 2006

I stayed at this hotel for one night and I can best describe this place as average, its neither terrible or good. The rooms are quite basic with the room furniture resembling a youth hostel, for the price I would have expected things like a hair dryer etc but apart from a small television and kettle there is nothing else. The bathroom is a wet room (no bath or shower cubicle)this is probably fine in hot countries but in England it means that all the floor and toilet gets and stays soaking wet.

These are minor niggles but the hotel really needs to improve its service there seems to be too few staff, I waited so long at the bar service that I eventually served myself.

“Really Nice Hotel”

A very nice hotel set in the countryside, not far from Tidworth. It is about a 20 min drive to Salisbury. The rooms are very nice with a private bathroom and double bed. Room's also have a TV, tea and coffee making facilites and are very nicely furnished. Breakfast is excellent and freshly cooked as per your request. You can have a full English breakfast, cereal, etc. Dinner is very nice and a good choice of meals on offer at reasonable prices. The hotel is run by a very friendly family and they were more than willing to help with any questions put to them. The hotel has a bar and a nice lounge area. There is also an outside area that is nice to sit and relax while having a drink. There is nothing I can really complain about this hotel and would recommend it to anyone visiting the area and I would certainly stay there again.
