“A bed for the night ... no more”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 November 2011

If you are booked here when visiting the MOD sites in the area you will get an adequate room, basic breakfast and a convenient location with no frills.

The rooms are basic, a bed chair and desk with a bathroom. It has been redecorated recently but the bedding and curtains have not been replaced. If you want a quiet room go for one of the downstairs rooms as they get less road noise. If you need darkness then avoid rooms near the fire escapes which are very well lit - and the curtains are not lined so it's a bit like sleeping under floodlights.

I would stay here again if I was required to work in the area because it is convenient and clean. I wouldn't come and stay with my partner or recommend it as somewhere to stay with family.

The staff were busy - but rushed. People were unable to check out at 7:30 because they were doing breakfasts which meant that not only did we not get a full breakfast (started at 7:30) but we were also late for our 8:00 meeting.

Room Tip: Ground floor rooms are quieter. Avoid rooms near the fire escapes if you need darkness to sleep.

Thank you for your comments following your recent stay with us. As you pointed out we are very well located for visitors to the MoD sites on Salisbury Plaln and Andover. As you know we welcome many guests from the MoD to our hotel and all our rooms are fully equipped to the standards prescribed by the MoD for Hotel accommodation.
Thank you for pointing out the issue with lighting from the fire escape (required by law, of course) we shall investigate having the curtain linings made from a blackout material in the two rooms affected.
We are pleased to see that you will stay with us again, and if you require an earlier start than 07.30 we offer the facility to settle your account the evening prior to your departure.

the hotel is lovely and very clean, set in superb picturesque gardens. very spacious and modern bedroom fully equipped with lcd tv and tea/coffee making facilities. the choice of food is impeccable and what i sampled arrived in very good time and it tastes great. 2 separate dining areas to relax with a beer in the bar or dine in style in the bistro. the staff are very helpful and courteous and more than willing to help. the bathroom is very spacious and complete with bath or shower for you to choose how to unwind. bedroom rates are very reasonable from £70 per night including breakfast and vat.
well worth a visit. im sure you will not be disappointed.

“Friendly, comfortable place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 June 2011

Have stayed on business a couple of times now. My experience of hotels in this area has been that they are either over priced or not very good. The Red House Hotel is well priced and in a convenient location off the A303. Rooms are very clean and spacious with comfortable double beds and whilst you can get a bit of road noise from the 303 with the window open, it didn't disturb me too much. My only minor issue was some dodgy reception on the TV (signal kept breaking up). Staff are very friendly and obliging, the restaurant serves good quality pub/bistro food, again at reasonable cost and there is a comfortable lounge area near the bar to relax in before/after dinner - quite homely!

Room Tip: Standard rooms - all OK.

“I have been here before. It was as good, if not better, than last time.”

As the title suggests I have been here before. It was late 2008 or early 2009.

This time, whilst the rooms are not the most plush and modern, the hotel is well run, clean, calm, comfortable, with good staff and a restaurant that is good.

A short review but accurate nonetheless.

Recommendation ? Yes - for business travellers, ornithologists, walkers ...

“Basic hotel - friendly staff but just misses out.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 August 2010

Like others I have been booked into this hotel.

It is lower priced than many others in the area. Rooms are basic, no hair dryers but you need to ask at reception for a hair dryer.

The gravel car park is difficult to wheel a suitcase over - not fun after a long drive, in the rain, in the dark.

Rooms were basic but clean and comfortable.

Breakfast was adequate and the had diabetic marmalade! The dinner menu was a bit "pub grub" but then i view this as a pub with rooms.

The rookery outside is very noisy and whilst I cannot suggest that they take a shotgun to a typical part of Rural England, they must accept that it will disturb a business traveller.

On the plus side I was very grateful for the de-icer and offer of a scraper at reception on a cold and frosty morning.

Thank you for your positive comments.
The provision of ice scrapers and de-icing liquid is much appreciated by our guests particularly those who arrive with hire cars..
We have consulted the RSPB regarding the rooks in our trees to one side of our extensive gardens and woods, unfortunately there is no solution apart from the suggestion of chopping down the trees! This would simply encourage more rooks to roost in our neighbours trees. It is a fact of rural life that for 3 months of the years rooks roost en masse to reproduce.
We would very much like to tarmac over our 2 acres of car parking, However the Hotel is set in a 'Water source protection area' and the Environmental Protection Acts prevent us from doing so to protect sources of drinking water.
Thank you for comments.
