Very comfortable in the English Country House style with well appointed bedrooms. The food was high quality. A superb wine list with some rare finds in it. If you want American style large rooms and Gastropub enormous helpings at dinner - don't bother to come! This is for people who appreciate the unique surroundings in a 17th century building, and a cook who concentrates on reasonable sized helpings of high quality. I am really suprised at the pervious comments that were so critical - suggest they stay at a 5* Hotel next time!

I find this place an almost perfect retreat in a quiet. Its set in a beautiful part of England and has a lovely garden. The food is excellent and the service is attentive but discrete; its small enough that you really do feel more like a guest than a customer. This is the only hotel I ever return to out of choice. If you go down here go and find Old Wardour Castle for a bit more magic.

I took my wife and daughters for a fishing trip and we were recommended this place by the organisers (Famous Fishing): it was absolutely perfect
The location is incredibly peaceful and tucked into a little valley. The only noise is the dawn chorus of the birds
Service was very good (drinks on the lawn turned up in no time at all) and food (particularly the very comprehensive breakfast) was very enjoyable
Only gripe would be that the beds were quite narrow (my have larger ones in other rooms

I took my family here on 24th October, and I would heartily recommend it to anyone who is seeking a comfortable, unpretentious rural bolt-hole in which they can be fed and watered to an excellent standard.
The rooms were country comfy, all with spotless bathrooms. As some other reviewers have mentioned, they are not slap bang modern - but it is an old country house, so this shouldn't come as a huge surprise! The lounge (complete with log fire) was a cosy place to retire to after dinner. And boy-what a dinner it was. As hotel restaurants go - Howard's House should be thoroughly proud of the amazing food they are producing. None of us can remember having such a fantastic meal - so hats off to Howards House - we will return!
