“Amazing Castle”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

I have always wanted to stay in a castle, so when we went to Barcelona and Madrid last April to visit my god daughter we stayed in this Parador. It is truly a castle and the village is amazing. We had dinner in the dining room, it was unusual and very nice. My husband had a port after dinner that was more than 150 years old. The village has a lot of restoration going on. My only regret would be that we did not have more time to visit. Will definately go back.
The desk clerks could be little more friendly!

Room Tip: They all seemed nice to me and there a lot of them.

“Magnificent hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

We stayed in this hotel for a weekend about 2 weeks ago and it was the nicest hotel I have ever stayed in. We stayed in one of the rooms in the tower section of the hotel, as it used to be an Arab Fortress, and it was the most beautiful room I have ever stayed in and I have stayed in a lot of hotels! Our hotel room had a fantastic 2 poster bed which was extremely comfortable with beautiful bed clothing and nice castle-like decorations above the bed. The walls were the original castle walls and our window/balcony used to be the original entrance to the castle. The room was very contemporary and modern for such an old building and we had an ajoined huge bathroom which was also very nice. There was also very nice touches in the room such as chocolates and scrolls left on our bed each day and an old style candle and matches left on the steps down to the balcony. Overall, the room is an ideal romantic location for couples seeking a quiet weekend away and also very cosy, clean and comfortable.

The hotel restaurant was also very nice, the food was reasonable priced for dinner and the breakfast in the mornings was absolutely delicious. Had the best scrambled egg and toast ever at this hotel and my boyfriend had the best lamb at dinner. The staff were also really nice and helpful and even though the first morning we were unable to make breakfast due to being exhausted from traveling the staff, we ate at the bar/cafe and the staff present counted it as our breakfast not charging us, which we both thought was very nice.

There are also beautiful walks on the ramparts of the castle, you can ask the reception for the key, as well as beautiful long walks around the town walls by the water/aqueduct. This is a beautiful romantic place to go and I highly recommend this hotel as I have stayed in far more expensive places which I didn't enjoy as much.

“Christmas in the castle”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2012

Like others I found it a bit disappointing. Beautiful but rather dull and very expensive. Showers and taps are ridiculous; couldn't use taps with wet hands and shower soaked the bathroom. Not a lot to do, bring books and walking boots

“Not enjoyed as much as we'd anticipated”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 November 2011

This was the second Parador on our trip and the most disappointing. It's a spectacular building in a wonderful position but we found it sadly lacking in "something". It was also by almost 60% the dearest. Our room was great, a lovely comfortable 4 poster bed, not in the tower (these cost even more) but to the side with small windows looking out over the gorge. The bathroom was also very good, large and well lit. There were few guests the night we stayed which might have added to the lack of atmosphere (admittedly, November is almost certainly not the best month to experience this hotel) but the main disappointment was the food. The evening meal was poor (our first choice was unavailable) and the breakfast had to be ordered from a menu, then served,so nothing like the choice in other hotels. The Spanish omelette was so salty we couldn't eat it. To sum up, if you want to stay in a castle try it for one night but there are better experiences around.

“Remotely Beautiful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 November 2011

We stayed 3 nights at this parador, as part of a one month tour of Spain by car. Arriving via the N111 and the CU-V-8033 roads we stopped at a mirdor overlooking the two gorges that surround the village of Alarcon. The parador looked magnificent. It was originally a Moorish Castle, enlarged and fortified after the reconquest. The setting is perfect and the village a delight to stroll around. There are a number of bars and restaurants but our favourite was Cabana de Alarcon, for the enthusiasm and humour of the patron, the ambiance, setting and food. A 5 Star experience. We enjoyed several walks around the local countryside, ranging from 2 miles to 5 miles. It is also very well placed for the Don Quixote Trail and the Camino de Santiago. The service at the parador was excellent, as was the breakfast and dinner in a vaulted Grand Hall. The courtyard cafe was ideal, having tables both in and out of the sun. My only criticism was that the rooms were a little on the small side for two people and rather cluttered. Clearly they were fashioned by a designer but not by a user. That said, the views from the window were spectacular and the beds comfortable. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel
