It is just enough out of Amsterdam that it is quiet and located in beautiful surroundings. Also very priceworthy. Recommended.

Well to start off with this hotel is nowhere near amsterdam, (40 minutes to edam by bus, then a 10 minute drive to hotel all of which cost extra). It is located in a very beautiful area but it is in a very isolated part of the countryside with no direct bus routes. Because of this a car is essential!
While at our stay in the Hotel Tolhuus we found some of the reception staff to be quite unfriendly in nature and unhelpfull to answer any queeries.
The rooms were clean but very basic, with no tea making facilities or even glasses to drink from. There was a vending machine located at the entrance to the hotel. However, this was empty for the duration of our 4 day stay. This led us to buy soft drinks from the hotel bar; which were ridiculously overpriced, as was the food in the restaurant.
Finally, 100 euro's was taken from our room. The rooms were not equiped with any safe facilities for valuables. We were only told about the extra costs of the hotel shuttle bus (which we had been frequently using) on the night prior to our departure. We also booked this bus for 7am the next morning to drive us directly from our hotel to Schiphol airport. This cost us 30euro-even though the bus was an hour and 15 minutes late, with no offer of refund or apology! As a result of this (and reception being closed until 7.45am the morning we were leaving)we missed our flights and had to pay an extra 120euro to get the next available flights home. We emailed the hotel on return to discuss these matters, and our disapointment at the service we recieved, and as of yet have still had no correspondance.
We were very dissapointed with our stay in this hotel, on what would have been an otherwise lovely holiday.

Bus Travellers get the 114 from the back of centraal station ( up the stairs outside the back entrance) to edam the bus runs every hour and is 6 euro for a single 9 for a return you can avail of a shuttle bus from the hotel to and from edam which cost 5 euro per person per trip but is very unreliable especially if you have a flight the next morning!!!

Terrible stay for three nights. Toilet smells. Matress makes noises when you sleep on it.we required 5 times and then got another room. After changing rooms found a big hole on the wall,spiders net on window. We complained and the manager said they don't care. Very bad service.

Cosy and nice place, but I must to warn about the road which takes you to the hotel.. can be hard to find. Housing conditions are worth their price. Don't book that if you're travelling without a car!
