“Sossusvlei Desert Lodge”

What a fabulous place. We flew in to Windhoek from Maun and were impressed with the scenery immediately. We had a lovely overnight at the Olive Grove in Windhoek before flying to Sossusvlei. Wildlife on the runway made for an interesting landing and the we were whisked off to the wonderful Sossusvlef Desert Lodge. What a great place, the scenery is spectacular, I mean jaw dropping. we has just spent 1 week in the Okavango Delta in tented camps so were so glad to have such luxurious accommodation. It was like having your own studio apartment - and a really fancy one at that!

Staff were fantastic, we were treated like royalty. Had our own butler. On arrival back from activities, we were greeted with cold drinks and wet towels to clean our hand and faces! What luxury! Chefs came out to introduce themselves, greet us and tell us about each menu. Wow, what indulgence. Our guide, Peter was great,, the activities were great, everything about his plac was great. The surprised us with an intimate Candlelit dinner in our room on the last night. What a wonderfully surprise. It made us feel so special and so looked after. I was so sad leaving. It was a perfect stay!!

Room Tip: Only 12 rooms, all great. They will treat you like royalty!

“Beautiful setting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2012

Visited in June on a self drive tour and would say this was my favourite lodge - the views from each room are spectacular. Mountains and petrified sand dune in the distance are amazing. Star gazing through the sky light above your bed is nice too.
It rained on the first day of our trip and was cold so bring a jacket or 2.
Wood burners in the room and hot chocolate on return from a game drive were great.
Early morning walk to see the rock art was good also.
Awesome place wish I could have stayed longer!

“Sublime.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2012

This is the most decadent, amazing, wonderful, perfect place we have ever stayed, and will ever stay. Period. This lodge is extraordinary, and if you think all of the above is hyperbole, make a reservation here. You will know what I am talking about, and you will thank me. The setting is breathtaking. The rooms are comfortable *in the extreme*. The food is really, really good. The service is impeccable:

"Would you like a second filet mignon dinner?" Done.

"Would you like another drink?" How many?

"What can we do for you?" Handled.

"Do have any questions?" Answered.

Getting to this lodge is not easy, the & Beyond booking agents in South Africa made me want to cancel my reservations, and it is really expensive. That said, this place is truly extraordinary and worth every single dime. Enjoy!

Thank you, Sossusvlei Desert Lodge. You've stayed in my dreams for months.

“One of my top 3 destinations ever!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 December 2011

This was our 3rd visit to Sossusvlei Desert Lodge, and it remains to be one of the most spectacular experiences. The lodge, setting, service, and comfort are all exceptional. I wish to minimise the details of our stay, as part of the magical experience is to discover the many little surprises that AndBeyond offer. This is a MUST STAY for anyone wanting to experience the Sossusvlei environment. I would also suggest a minimum stay of 3 nights.

“A truly amazing destination!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 December 2011

Namibia was the first leg of the trip I was taking my husband on for his 40th Birthday. We were met at Windhoek airport arrivals and promptly introduced to our pilot Francois who was going to fly us (on our first ever small plane flight!), for the 1 hour 10 minute flight to the &Beyond Sossusvlei Desert Lodge. And so the magic began....

We were privileged to see truly magnificent and vast aerial vistas. Upon a fairly smooth landing on the gravel landing strip, we were met by George who we learned was also going to be our guide for the duration of our 3 night stay.

I would not do George any justice in even attempting to describe in words how special he was and how he made this part of our trip remarkable. We learned so much from him and enjoyed his sense of humour and inexhaustible knowledge of the country he so clearly loves. We will without a doubt request to have him as our guide when we go to the &Beyond Sossusvlei Desert Lodge again.

Our accommodation was truly spectacular, luxurious and clean, with a skylight above our bed to watch the myriad of stars above us when we go to sleep at night, an outdoor shower (as well as a huge indoor one) and of course the toilet overlooking the vast outdoors!

The food was truly outstanding and in my humble opinion far surpassed some of the so called best restaurants in the world, like Heston Blumenthal’s ‘The Fat Duck Restaurant’ in the UK and ‘Rust en Vrede’ in South Africa. We had the privilege to meet our chef Belinda and as with George, I do not believe I would do her or her feasts any justice in trying to describe them.

The last person I feel I should make mention of is Ruth. She manages the staff superbly and engages with all the guests in a manner that made each one feel special. One example of many for us would be the fact that we mentioned to her in passing that their wine cellar stocked the red wine we had served at our wedding and on the night they made a surprise dinner for us and a few other guests in the desert, she had brought along a bottle for us to enjoy. Can you truly beat drinking a special bottle of red wine under a blanket of stars with a glorious meal served by truly exceptional people?

George took us walking on the dunes, quad biking on the dunes and also drove us up petrified dunes and of course took us on game drives. We never expected to see much wildlife, but George’s sharp eyes ensured that we saw an amazing amount of animals and birds.

We were truly sad to leave the &Beyond Sossusvlei Desert Lodge and will endeavour to return at our earliest opportunity!

Room Tip: All the villas are the same design and we never knew of our neighbours.
