We were very impressed by the outside appearance of the hotel which was exactly as advertised unlike other hotels. The reception is located in a very impressive marbled tiled foyer with sweeping staircase and echoes of grander days. The bedroom was huge and stylishly furnished in antique style with a very large bed, comfortable two seater settee. round coffee table and wing chair and two desks - so plenty room. The bathroom was large and gleaming white - spotlessly clean. The breakfast was excellent with a good selection of cold and hot dishes which included bacon. boiled and scrambled eggs. sausages, various cereals, yoghurts, fresh fruit salad. melon and dried fruit. There was also a variety of cheeses , cold meats, tomatoes, cucumber and smoked salmon. There was also small croissants which were delicious. Staff were very attentive and were constantly restocking the buffet.
Dinner in the evening was excellent with a choice of two restaurants but the menu is not vast.
Although we did not use the facilities the hotel has a nice swimming pool and spa which appeared to be very popular.
Without exception all the staff we encountered were extremely helpful and could not be faulted. If I had one complaint it would be that disabled parking is not available outside the hotel but outside the boundary wall. The entrance is cobbled and if you have difficulty walking this makes the walk unnecessarily difficult. It was especially annoying as the spaces in front of the hotel appear to be used by staff from the hotel spa who were perfectly capable of walking from the parking on the boundary wall. Apart from this I would thoroughly recommend this hotel and would not hesitate to stay again.
