Guadalupe is in our top ten of favourite places in Spain. It is a small village dominated by the Monastery visitor trade and therefore can be a little too touristy during the day, but don´t let that put you off: at least it means that there are lot of restaurants to choose from. The Parador is in the village centre, close to the Monastery. There is limited parking within an internal courtyard. The Parador building is great: just what you expect, with a shady patio dominated by orange trees. Our room was in the new annex, but was excellent, with a balcony and views over the village to the scenic hills beyond. We have only one complaint: the bar/restaurant service was unfriendly almost to the point of surlyness. Perhaps the waitress was having a bad day, but the Parador chain needs to work harder on customer attention. Just a smile would make such a difference. Given our experience, I would recommend eating somewhere else in the village. Visits to the Monastery are guided and a little too fast but still unmissable, if only to see the in situ collection of Zubarans in the Sacristy (not to mention a Goya, a couple of El Grecos, and some gorgeous ivory sculptures). Unless you are a praying believer, however, I would give the final visit to the Virgin a miss.
