I was a guest at a wedding in Cromleach Lodge recently ,not a happy customer.
I have stayed and dined in numerous 4 and 5 star hotels in Ireland and this was not up to the 4 star standard ,3 star at a push. The entrance road was a rough gravel road the car park was also rough gravel area ,with a steep gradient back to the hotel reception that anyone would find difficult to walk on,it was like a decent from a mountain and very unsafe.
The hotel has a very poorly designed layout, narrow hallways steps up steps down all over the hotel. The hotel bar was opened before the wedding meal with about 100 guests in attendance for the meal ,there was clearly not enough room for the 100 guests attending the wedding party.people in the hallway ,guests cramped under the stairwell ,and the bar area was cramped with most guests standing in uncomfortable areas ,to small for a party of 100 ,more suitable for 30 to 40 guests, most people were scattered in the hallway before the meal. The bar was closed before the meal and before we were called to the dining area again more steps to another floor level .I went to the bar in the dining area with four staff behind the bar one bar man informed me quiet abruptly the bar was not open, the bar down stairs was also closed.
The meal soup was only ok the bread came a long long time later, the vol au vent was very
small and cold in the middle, the main was a choice of sea bass or beef,I went for beef ,over cooked quiet rubbery the salt and pepper was taken of the table before the main course was finished as was the side plate with the vegetable, I did not know why they could not give sufficent time to leave the salt and pepper and the veg on the table when eating the main course. The desert was a selection of desert s,the apple crumble was stodgy the rest poor enough. The wine served was less than half a glass at the start of the meal, with a top up during the meal ,so less than a full glass served for the entire meal, but plenty of top ups with the water.
Price of drinks steep enough at 5.60 euro for two minerals and 9.00 euro for a pint of beer and a bottle of beer, the celtic tiger era is over apparently not in this hotel which was over priced ,over rated and I would definetly not go to Cromleach lodge again, way to small a venue for 100 guests .
