We booked this hotel for one night before returning to the UK on the car ferry. Admittedly, the website did say the toilet and shower were external, but in such a way that we managed to overlook this when booking. These facilities lacked cleanliness. The building was shoddy and patronised by some equally shoddy clientelle who were at times rowdy and - due to complete lack of sound insulation - contributed to a sleepless night. On arrival we had to elbow our way past drunk anti-social characters congregating outside the entrance with a large collection of discarded wine bottles littered around, clouds of cigarette smoke and possibly worse. We both bumped our heads several times on the third overhead bunk bed in the room, which was tiny. Lack of sleep was compounded by fears that the car would not be safe in the car-park, although we had emptied everything into the room, watched by various suspicious-looking characters. We did not order any breakfast - thankfully - and left very early - not a moment too soon. Having stayed in what was then a brand new F1 hotel once before, we knew roughly what to expect, but nothing could have prepared us for this terrible experience, which was not only the result of run-down premises, but also the fact of it being located in an unattractive area. Next time we take the car to Europe we'll break the journey elsewhere.
If you're a budget back-packer, then maybe this is the place for you, if you don't mind slumming it in dubious company. Otherwise, stay away!
