The hotel is in a beautiful location, and the building and grounds are superb. The rooms, whilst not large, are very comfortable, and the bathrooms are adequate, despite the lack of a bidet. The problem is the restaurant, that used to be excellent (we lived in the area for a few years). The meals are very expensive - over 50 euros a head with wine - but the food is bland and not of the quality expected. Wines are extremely expensive for what they are. It is all very fussily presented, but without any real attention to what should go with what. We dined with two friends and there were the same garnishes and vegetables (including poached pear) with salmon, fillet steak, and guinea fowl! The menus look like those of a cheap cafe - heavy plastic with paper inserts. The choice of only one fish item and three meat for the main course is inadequate for a restaurant of this price. The standard has dropped radically since we last visited about 5 years ago. The breakfasts, which are standard French fare, are over-priced at 12 euros. If you stay here, go out to eat in any of the excellent restaurants in the surrounding villages and towns.
