Stayed at Su Marmuri for two nights whilst touring Sardinia in August. The journey up into the mountains from Arbatax was stunningly beautiful.
This little hotel (the only hotel in Ulassi as far as I know) is a gem - not for the facilities, decor, or luxury but for the absolute pleasure of meeting the little guy who runs it!
We can only agree with what people have said before, Tonino is a star. He took great delight in showing us his wine cellar, and then announced it was help yourself to Cannonau time!! He took us out at night to see the caves high above the village, and further on up the mountain to see the stars at midnight, he even left us the keys to his wine cellar when he went to bed!
This guy speaks very little English but he doesn't need to - he could teach the big operators of this world a thing or two about customer service!
Whilst we were there he told us to visit the wine festival in Jerzu which was fantastically rustic and charming - watch out for the mamuttones if you visit!! We also walked from the village up to the Grotto - a fair old walk in the heat but well worth it.
If you're looking for luxury and fine dining this isn't for you, but if you are looking for comfort and a host who loves his village and his hotel, you won't go wrong.
