“Very good location with amazing pool”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 August 2011

Stayed here for 2 nights, having booked at last minute as a stop during our drive back from Portugal. At first, I felt disappointed as the hotel looked much shabbier from the outside than it looked on the internet. The decor was a bit old fashioned although was of a high quality and the hotel was immaculate. However, I gradually changed my opinion. We booked 2 rooms - a double and a triple for our children. Both rooms had large balconies (but these made me feel slightly edgy !) and were very easy to keep cool. BUT - the hotel had such an enormous pool (well, 2 pools actually) which we seemed to have to ourselves almost all the time - it was a huge hit with us! Also, in terms of getting in to Salamanca, it was incredibly easy - a 10 minute, straightforward drive and we were in the centre of the city. The hotel was well signposted in the city so was very easy to find initially. A downside was the breakfast - it cost Euros 8 per person with no reduction for children - we found this prohibitive as our children don't eat 8 Euros worth of food first thing! Despite that, i think we would return and stay at this hotel when we next pass through as it was far better than I thought it was going to be. The rooms were very quiet, aided by a sort of lobby which both our rooms had. Parking was free, and there was free wifi throughout the hotel. I have already recommended the hotel to my parents who are visiting the city next year as I feel any disadvantages the hotel has (cost of breakfast and slightly outdated decor) and vastly outweighed by the advantages it offers (location, facilities, cleanliness).

Room Tip: Compare prices on the internet to ensure you get the best deal - we booked via booking.com

“Very nice - would return in the future”

I stayed at Hotel Regio during a three week vacation in France, Spain and Portugal. Other than not being able to find the hotel, even with GPS, it was an enjoyable stay at Hotel Regio. The room was spacious. I would definitely stay here again.

“no reason to stay here”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 June 2010

we chose to stay in this hotel becaue it has a pool. the location is inconvenient, being 4 kms out of Salamanca and the price was only ok IF IT INCLUDED all advertised facilities.. however, after a long hot drive in June, we thought the pool was the deciding factor. imagine our disappointment when we arrived to find a beautiful fulllsize pool, completely empty of water.. apparently they only fill it in 'high season.' ie a couple of months a year.
to cheer myself up and cool down a little, i decided to have a cold beer from the minibar fridge in the room - it was tepid.
so i decided to have a cool shower - but the seal on the shower door was broken so the bathroom flooded if you turned the shower on more than halfway.. (solved the problem of no pool!!! ) also meant the floor was very clean which was lucky cos i wrote CLEAN ME in the dust on the window sill.
the room was nice, big and airy. we had a lovely big wraparound balcony to sit out on, but alas, it overlooked the very large very obvious road side sign advertising PISCINA!!!!! Galling!
there is a bus into Salamanca to save taking the car - handy if you want a beer or two, but be warned,it takes 45 minutes as it zigzags through the suburbs. You could probably walk it almost as quick.
There was nothing wrong with the hotel really, but without the pool there are many better, and/or cheaper places to stay in Salamanca itself. Salamanca by the way, is LOVELY!

“Exellent hotel for the price!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 November 2009

We realised that we would arrive after the 18.00 cut off for our reservation so phoned ahead, the receptionist assured us that the reservation would be held for us despite what time we arrived. Our room on the 2nd floor was large and overlooked the substantial parking area, there was a flat screen tv (spanish programmes} and air conditioning. The bathroom was fitted with new sanitary ware and there was a shower over the bath. One could eat in the Restaurant or the cafeteria we chose the latter as the meals were plentiful and appeared to be freshly cooked and also much cheaper. The location was outside Salamanca proper by approx 4km but there is an hourly shuttle bus (public transport) to the city from the grounds of the hotel avoiding the parking nightmare in the centre. We liked the pricing structure of the hotel 50 Euro for a double inc breakfast in the low season, the free internet access in the public area and congenial staff. I have been using this Hotel over a number of years and fail to find anything adverse that I would consider worth mentioning for the price one pays.

“Excellent Value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 May 2009

I chose this hotel based on other reviews. The hotel is situated on a totally ordinary commercial stretch of road about 5 km from Salamanca, perhaps a 15 minute ride into town. The hotel also offers a campground and space for recreational vehicles. While this might be off-putting to some, it adds to the amenities available in that parking is plentiful and there is a nice size swimming pool and a tennis court, should you be so inclined. The lobby and public areas are marble and the welcome is warm. Rooms are comfortable, with space to move around, have hardwood floors and marble bathrooms. Rooms have air conditioning, although it was not turned on during our mid-spring visit. Beds were typical of what we found in Spain: hard. Some might say firm, but I call them hard. I prefer more give than a carpeted floor to sleep on, and found virtually every bed I slept on hard. The bed sheets were actually quite nice.

I chose Regio because with a car, we could stay in a quality place (it was), drive to town when we wanted (they also have a complimentary shuttle service every hour, if you choose to leave the driving to them) and put the savings for the room towards our evening meal. That worked out extremely well, as we had an excellent vegetarian meal (great value) in the residential part of Salamanca at El Grillo Azul, thanks to a recommendation in our Rough Guide travel book. This is a very nice hotel at an extremely reasonable price.
