We stayed here en route to the Algarve having taken the ferry from UK to Santander. The hotel lived up to the good reviews received on this site. We had a large family room - effectively a suite with a sofa bed for the kids. Everything was clean and serviceable and the staff were extremely helpful throughout our stay. The hotel is a short taxi to the town centre (and what a beautiful place) and we choose to eat there. Breakfast the next morning was better than OK. All in all excellent value for money and I would recommend.

Travelling with a car tends to preclude quaint hotels in the centre of the "Old Town." This is just out of town (Pleasant 15 - 20 minute stroll) and benefits from free parking and is easy to find.
On arrival we didn't expect much as the hotel has the appearance of thousands of other chain hotels the world over. It surprised us however as everything was just that little bit better than expected.
I virtually never eat in hotels as I enjoy exploring (usually with the help of Trip Advisor) On this particular occasion we broke the habit and opted to eat in. I believe we might have n=been the only guests to do so that evening but we were made most welcome and, apparently, the whole of the a la carte menu was available as well as a very reasonable menu of the day. We had a truly excellent meal which couldn't be faulted in any way. Breakfast, the next morning was as good! A huge selection of both hot and cold food was available and there was truly something for even the fussiest eaters.
So, top marks all round for what first appeared to be a bland soul less but proved to be nothing of the kind!

My partner and I stayed here for one night and will definitely never return! The hotel of course is in a not-so-great location but that is fine, as we were totally aware of this when we booked. A cab ride into the centre of town was 10 euros including a 5.50 euro booking fee, but a taxi back home was only 5 euros when we hailed it on our own - not bad at all.

The best part of the hotel was the reception area - clean, open and relaxed feeling. The staff were friendly and spoke many languages. However, the good points end there!!

The room was horrible!! It was dirty, rundown and smelled musty, weird and smoky (despite asking for a non-smoking room). The bedspread had cigarette burns on it and had other rips and holes. The sheets and blankets had hairs and stains on them and just didn't look clean. The carpet was visibly dusty and dirty and the curtains were so old that they were partially see-through. The air conditioning was completely broken and the windows wouldn't open, even though they were supposed to. The bathroom was dirty - the floor covered in hair, general uncleanliness around the sink and shower etc.

The wireless Internet also did not work - however, there had been a lot of rain that day so the weather factors could have contributed to that.

We couldn't wait to leave which was such a pity because after the good reviews on here, we were really looking forward to our stay. Oh well, you win some, you lose some! This one was definitely a loss and whenever we return to Salamanca (which was a beautiful city!) we will fork out the extra money and stay at the amazing NH Palacio de Castellanos with its gorgeous location and restaurant!

This hotel is on the edge of the beautiful city of Salamanca.It has a bus stop right outside -so you can leave the car in free car parking and enjoy the city .Evening 3 course meal with a bottle of wine and water 16 Euros -fantastic value.The hotel has a lovely pool-can,t recommend it too highly.When you're on a driving holiday its nice to leave the car at the hotel and take public transport-see my review of hotel in Leon which had the same facility
