“Don't go there: out-of-date and bad service!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 September 2009

We are currently staying at the Aisia Orio hotel near San Sebastian. Booking a pack for € 75,00 this seemed a nice option near San Sebastian, but in fact I am glad it's only for one night. The promised spa is only open for 4 hours and closes at 18:00?!?! The breakfast is terrible. There is only one waitress for all the guests, so there are no clean tables and not much to discover on the buffet. The restaurant hasn't a lot of frills either.
None of the hotel staff isn't friendly or helpfull at all, especially the reception staff.
The whole hotel: interior, exterior, rooms, ... all is out-of-date.
I certainly ain't comming again here!

“Unfortunately: boring.”

Stayed here in May 2008. Was recommended by the tourist office in San Sebastian, but was sad to see this charmless concrete building lying all alone on a flat piece of land. A long walk from the village centre. The receptionist knew nothing, we had booked a suite of some kind, but we never saw it. No, it was a real disappointment. We moved on the next day along the Basque coast.
If you have to stay in Orio there's no option, I guess, but if you can avoid it I think you should!

“Relaxing Hotel near San Sebastian”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 August 2008

I hosted three times in this hotel for working reasons recently. It is part of a small basque chain and it is a very comfortably hotel. You'll find good (but maybe a bit small) and modern rooms, large bathrooms, a correct spa (with sea water, which is excellent), a good breakfast and it is 100 mts from the beach.

Orio it is less than 15 km from San Sebastian and the hotel is on the beach, about 2 km away from Orio itself. Orio is a typical fishermen village where you can eat excellent daily fish (there or in Getaria, the hometown of J.S. Elkano). The beach is good and the place is quiet.

The hotel has its own parking but maybe you prefer to park in the street (parkmeters, but you can pay for the whole day and it is cheaper than the hotel parking). Except from summer (Jun-Sept) parking on the street is free and absolutely safe.

A good hotel for a relaxing weekend or to be taked as an alternative option for sleeping in San Sebastian (you can drive, take a bus or even the train, about 20 min).

  • Liked — The beach, the spa
  • Disliked — In summer or you pay the hotel parking (expensive) or you pay for parking on the street (also expensive)

“Aisia Balea - a pleasant surprise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 July 2008

I could not find any reviews on this hotel and believe it is the same one now called the Aisia Balea. Both the hotel and the town were better than I had expected. The hotel is shaped like a ship and is right on the beachfront. The beach is a nice one with sand, good waves and facilities like beach bars, changing rooms, showers, etc. The town is perfectly pleasant and has some decent restaurants. It is not as picturesque as Getaria, but it is nice in its own way.

The rooms in the hotel are a little small but each has a balcony; the decor may not wear well, but the hotel has everything you want . Breakfast is not expensive. We did not try the thalassotherapy. Beds were good and hot water plentiful. It has a small but lively bar and free wifi, which is a bonus - in fact, there is a free computer in reception to check your emails.

Everything on this coast is expensive in season but all things considered we thought this was a find and would not hesitate to recommend it.
