This place is just what we were looking for. A well-maintained, unfussy, comfortable bed & breakfast, simple but lovely, with a warm welcome from the new Dutch owners, who told us they had plans to refurbish and extend the property. They may even put in a swimming pool, which would make the place truly fabulous!
The courtyard is reminiscent of an unshowy Marrakech riad, and is the place where breakfast is served. Well worth the extra charge for breakfast.
We had booked one of the 3 top floor rooms which each have a small, semi-private terrace by the front door. Great for sitting with a beer after returning from the beach, looking out over the village rooftops. The terrace rooms (and, I believe, most of the other rooms) are air conditioned. This was a godsend during the unseasonably warm second week in September when we stayed.
The new owners told us they plan to roll out aircon in all rooms soon. They have discrete solar panels on the roof, which was reassuringly green.
Our room was comfortable with a good bed and well appointed ensuite bathroom.
Ojen itself is also simple but lovely. Not in the same "league" as, say, Mijas. The restaurants aren't as fancy, but you still get good food, from tapas cafes to proper restaurants. Ojen has a delightful local feel to it. Although we saw tourists around, this is very much a Spanish town, and all the better for it.
Overall, La Posada Del Angel would really suit travellers like us who are looking for style and comfort instead of the rather impersonal resort hotels to be found on the coast. Having a car is a must. Marbella is only a few minutes' drive away, and it was great to be able to get in, have a great meal/ drinks in Marbella (or even in the ghastly Puerto Banus, where at least the restaurants are good) and then drive "home", waking up in a peaceful mountain village.
We'll be back!
