“Disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 October 2007

During our three week trip driving through Spain where we stayed in a variety of hotels, this was the most disappointing. The location and appearance of the building were cool, but we were given a room with a strange odor and a so so view that included a dump. Fortunately, they allowed us to reduce our stay to only one night. The hotel was practically empty, and we were the only people in the large dining room for dinner--a bit odd. The hotel room was a decent size and the bathroom was adequate. Staff was ok.

“no problems...fab..BUT..”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 September 2007

Was just back yesterday from a friends wedding. I was in room 101! which is just off everything on level 4. It was great. Even with the wedding going on(loud music etc)!!

The room, was perfect. I saw a good few rooms and they are all just above average size. Big double bed, with kitchen(which was only used to store water for the morning!), and a couch (quite comfy). Nice shower. Clean.

Food : a ham and cheese sandwitch costs 9 euro! Yes 9 euro. So just go down in to the town of Monda for lunch etc. But breakfast was great(included in price), hot and cold food, up to scratch. So in general the food is a no-no. BUT I MUST point out the wedding dinner we had was good(Give it 8/10). EXPECT your food to be undercooked, ASK for REALLY well done. If your not into a pile of red blood on your plate. But the spanish like it this way.

DRINK: Go down to monda! Its only a 5 minute walk down that very very steep hill. You will pay double, than what you would in the local bars. For example I got 6 bottles of "crusecampo"(a local beer) for 11.40 ! But its(hotel) ok for one maybe before you start the day! If your into that.

VIEW: Magicial. We were lucky had the sun, in all its glory. Sitting in the jacuzzi in the bridial sweet (note this is the ONLY Jacuzzi, I saw anywhere in the hotel). Great view of the surrounding hills. I hope yout not scared of heights when driving!

POOL: Fine, no problems would fit about 20 MAX I'd guess at. We had a ball here with bottles of champaign! Only about 7 sun beds.

All in all its good. But a little pricey. My room for 3 nights was 520 euro(inc TAX). But the location just got me, its great. You will need a car unless your not planning to go anywhere. On that note remember we had the whole hotel to ourselves!

Just one more point. The weding party paid for most of the drink until a certain time(around 12am). But after that they really took the biscuit as in charging WAY over the normal going price.

Its not really the place to go unless you like peace and quite. I'd recommend a pile of people going over together for a wedding etc. If you get bored with the castle, just head to benalmadena (about 1 hour 10 mins drive away).

Enjoy.

“A change for the worse”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 September 2007

My wife and I along with friends stayed at Castle Monda for a week in June over a period of 6 years. The Castle changed hands in May 2006 I believe. We arrived perhaps two weeks or so after the change of Management. We had over the years fallen in Love with the Castle and had always been given the best possible service...one of the family you might say. Everything changed in June 2006 and we decided not to revisit. We have read the reviews and had a similar experience..keys didnt work, the hot water system faulty and the food/service at THAT time poor and disorganised..my wife still receives monthly emails from the Hotel but the prices have increased substantially and judging by our experience last year I cannot imagine the situation has improved that much...Perhaps if they used English in their emails it would be a start!! I tend to believe the not so good reports rather than the 5/5 ratings...

“Disappointing!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 September 2007

We had stayed once before about 8 years ago and our memory of it was quite magical, however we returned for our 7th wedding anniversary and what a disappointment. The welcome at reception was fine but it seems thats all they got right, despite having checked in at 1pm (check in is advertised as 12am) we had to wait 20 mins for the room to be ready (no they did not offer a drink whilst we waited!). The room was supposed to be their deluxe one, we wanted a special evening, it was tired very tried I don't think the hotel has had a revamp since we stayed there all those years ago. The bathroom was huge with a equally huge spa but that was all the room had going for it, the carpets were dirty, frayed and they seemed wet, yes wet! it transpired the shower leaked onto the bathroom floor and staright into the corridor carpet!
The service at the restaurant also left a lot to be desired but the food was good, the east european waitresses struggled with the orders, waitering and just about everything else.
It seems they have tapped into the wedding market and thats all they are interested in.

Unfortunately not the romantic evening we were hoping for.

PS. The breakfast was good!
