“A stay at the Hostellerie du Château de Floure”

We very much enjoyed our stay at the Hostellerie du Château de Floure. The room (superior) was large with a big terrasse and had everything you can wish for, including a wonderful immense bed (but no safe) The weather did not permit us to enjoy the gardens but they are very nice and the swimming-pool as well. We had opted for demi-board and the food was well prepared and well served. The spa is quite enjoyable. The owners are very helpful and pleasant to talk to.

“Something Not Quite Right”

Arrived at the hotel around 6.30 after a full day sight seeing. We'd booked for one night at de Floure which, as it turned out, was enough. Our room (10) was large with a good sized bathroom, adequate towels and toiletries. Room had electronic shutters which we like as, for us, they assist getting a good night's sleep. The "beautiful" gardens were dried up and all but dead. There are watering systems these days guys. We did not use either swimming pool.
Service at dinner was hit and miss with the emphasis being more on the miss. We had to ask three times for water and the cutlery and glasses were dirty. I got the distinct impression that the staff felt they were doing us, paying customers, a favour by deigning to serve us. Not good enough guys at your prices! The food was average and nothing to write home about. In fact, my dessert - the "macaroon" was awful, almost stale in taste and not at all crisp like a macaroon should be.
Decided not to partake in the breakfast at 18 euros per person. This is London hotel prices and not what I expect from a country hotel.
Overall, we did not enjoy our stay at Chateau de Floure - something just did not sit comfortably with us. I felt they wanted our money but wanted to do as little as possible for it. We will not be returning.

“It's the perfect Host a Murder hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 June 2011

This hotel apparently used to be a monastery and has been extended over the years but the heavy oak beams remain, as do a kind of rabbit warren of rooms.
This and the Domaine de la Tortiniere, was the only hotel that had us all running and giggling like schoolkids checking out everyone's room. No two rooms are alike.
One of the oldest couples on our tour scored room 1 which used to be the previous owner's suite - amazingly large and beautifully decorated!
Mum and I got (I think) room 18 or was it 16, that had two separate adjoining roooms and ensuites, both attractively presented.
We were all in fits of laughter when someone intoned, "I have brought you all here today..." as if it was an Agatha Christie novel in the dark and atmospheric dining room. Normally I prefer round tables so everyone can share the conversation but this one seemed right for the room.

“Fabulous Hotel - but not perfect”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 May 2011

My friends and I stayed in room 2 which was huge. The service was very friendly and helpful. The room was beautifully furnished but had a lot of tiny niggles. The bath plug didn’t work; an electrical socket & two door handles were loose etc. The beds were comfy and the room was clean. The food in the evening was very good but breakfast was disappointing. This may have been because we were there at low season. Overall great value for money and a charming hotel with real character. A great base to visit Carcassonne and the surrounding area from. Room 2 would be great for a family because you could have your own space but the children are withinn the same front door as you.
