“AGH Canet - Great Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 July 2008

Recently stayed at the AGH Canet hotel for 12 days. We all loved the hotel. It was very nice with a large garden surrounding a great pool. The kids (11 & 13) played there for hours every day. Summer starts 1 july and from that date there was entertainment for the kids all day until late nigths. But it was only in spanish.....Very litle english at all. More restaurants opened on daily basis after 1 july and there are several good places to eat along the beach. Summertime is obviously the best time to stay here. Out of season it could be to quiet here.

Most likely we will come back.

“Great pool, bad food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 June 2008

Perfect hotel for short break where all you want is a great pool.

Rooms are large with great bathrooms - try and get a room with the pool view. Best bit is the pool and great beach across the road - you feel like you're somewhere more exotic than Spain.

Main complaint was the food - it is that bad that I feared food poisoning - all meals are buffet style, with meats sitting in tepid sauces for hours. Horrible. Better bet is to go across the road to the Hotel Chispa where the food is cooked from fresh.

Also, the hotel staff did not speak particularly good English and did come across slightly unhelpful. Not a big problem but was a bit annoying when we were trying to find somewhere else to eat.

As the hotel floors are laid with tiles noise echoes a lot - even people walking around woke me up and I'm normally a very good sleeper.

Last slightly minor complaint is the town itself - it was lifeless - wouldn't have been a problem if the hotel food was not so bad.

“Evening meals awful”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 June 2007

Hotel was clean and airy, although air con in the bedroom broke on last day. Supposedly a 4* hotel, we chose to eat in the restaurant on our first night. BIG mistake - the food was buffet style, but was cold, non- appitising and when you had finished they scraped plates off into a bin in hte middle of the restaurant which stayed there for the duration of the evening.

Cost us 50 euros each way in a taxi, so could be cheaper to hire a car.

Excellent location for beach if you just want to chill out, but limited choice of places to eat at this time of year. Recommendation came to go to Sagunto (about 1/2 hr walk as more to do there)

Reception staff appreciate it if you try and speak Spanish.

“Lovely place - shame about the food!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 October 2006

This is a good 4* hotel with a wide variety of facilities: large gym, sauna, table tennis, tennis but a cold pool and rather disappointing jacuzzi! The receptionists are helpful especially if you need to know about public transport of which there is very little! Just get a taxi to Sagunto railway station (9 euros) and then a train to Valencia (very cheap!). You can walk along the beach which has a Blue flag and is lovely although the sea was too rough to swim in in October and too cold! There is nothing happening around the area - all the shops, restaurants and facilites are closed from Septemebr it seems - so make your own entertainment at night!
The food is the most disappointing aspect - the evening meal (waiter service) had a selection each night which seemed to be repeated ( a tuna salad could be called Valencain salad, ocean salad or one night called aubergine and red pepper salad - all the same!). The main course was very oily and basic (one night omlette and chips another fried egg and chips or just a boney piece of fish) - not very edible for 18 euros.
The hotel was clean and rooms lovely - large ,lovely clean towels and linen and beautifully kept. The public areas were also well kept.
It was very quiet in October but would probabaly be busier in the height of season. There's a lot of building work going on but it's not too noisey at any time.

  • Liked — large clean rooms
  • Disliked — food quality
  • Tips/Secrets — you have to sue taxis or hire car to get anywhere - don't be fussy about your food!

“will be great in about 3-5 years”

just got back from here.
Certainly a mixed experience and a fairly cheap break. We got some cheap flights a cheap car rental and the accommodation all booked separately online. I looked for hotel review before we went but as this is a fairly new hotel wasn't too worried when i didnt find any.
May is way too early in the season to go to a Spanish resort like canet in Valencia. It was dead apart from Sunday when everyone heads down to the pretty lovely beach. There is only a couple of hotels built in this quite reasonable size resort, 2 supermarket, a pharmacy, cinema, 2 open ice cream parlours ( not late) and a couple of hotel bars. Our hotel was basically used as a saga hotel. We are in our late twenties and although the saga guests were of our parents and grandparents age were firendly when we were able to chat to them. There was nothing to cater to what anyone who likes some entertainment on holiday would like to do. Our hotel bar closed at mainly 11.30! The saga guests who had all inclusive with a free bar seemed unimpressed by this also.
I get the impression that saga may stop using this hotel shortly due to the unhelpfulness of the hotel staff in general and problems with the food.
We went half board and we found the food to be ok , if not a little dull.
I and my partner are difficult as i am a gluten free chicken and fish eater and he is a veggie who eats fish. We always found something to eat even if it was mostly samey. The chefs at dinner are very friendly and speak good English . they cook fresh meat and fish steaks up for you as you wait on the grill behind the buffet.
Even though this resort is being built we weren't disturbed by any building noise and I think that you could certainly have a nice relaxing cheapholiday here. Car hire is essential as public transport has yet to stretch this far out of Valencia. We did some exploring during teh 4 days we were here and revisited the lovely beaches of gandia further south ( a much better resort but still very quiet). Sungunto (sagunt) about 5 miles from our hotel is most definitely a gem. There is an amazing roman fort, castle and amphitheatre but make sure that you know the opening times. we were chucked out early as it was a Sunday.
Valencia itself was ok during the day but im sure it hots up at night. We were unable to stay till evening as it would have costs us a fortune in a taxi to get home.
