“What a shambles!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 September 2008

We stayed at this hotel on our way back from South-West France. Fortunately we were only staying for one night. We arrived at the hotel about 8pm - if we had arrived earlier and in daylight we would have turned around and looked for somewhere else to stay! We parked at what we thought was the entrance to find it locked, we then had to trek across to reception (which is not signed) through what can only be described as a building site. Staff at reception were unhelpful and took ages to get our keys and go through the check-in process. We then drove round to our cottage. I was filled with dread when I saw the state of the place - paint was peeling off the doors and it looked generally unkempt. Inside was little better. I don't know when it was last given a really good clean - bed linen and towels were clean but there were rather too many cobwebs. The whole place was generally unkempt.

Downstairs there was a very large room with a sofa-bed, dining table and eight chairs and a television. The only place you could sit and watch TV was on the sofa-bed which was not big enough for four people. My son switched on the cooker in the kitchenette and promptly tripped the fuses in the whole house. The bathroom was upstairs but there was no wc in the bathroom so if you wanted to go during the night you had to go down a flight of fairly steep stairs. The loo was downstairs but there was no sink. A bizarre arrangement in my opinion. Several of the bedside lights did not work and there were at least three power point which had become detached from the wall.

From looking in the cupboards in our cottage it was obvious that it also doubled as a conference or training room. There was an overhead projector in one of the "wardrobes".

We ate dinner in the hotel restaurant (also seems to be the clubhouse) which was okay - we had better meals in very ordinary places in the South for considerably less money. The staff were at times quite attentive but at other times they managed to ignore you very successfully. We asked the waiter a question about the wine we ordered - it was obvious that he knew nothing about wine.

We had a fairly disturbed night as there was a wedding at the hotel which got pretty loud at about midnight. They were still having a karaoke contest at 5am!!

In the morning we had breakfast in the main hotel building - the buffet was pretty awful. There were hard crusty rolls or squashed croissants, a poor choice of cereals and again the staff were unhelpful.

I really do not understand how this place gets a three turret rating in Michelin.

In my opinion they should close the place down, completely renovate it and start again. We will never stay there again - I think I might prefer to sleep in the car.

We completed the feedback form and listed most of the above - we have had no feedback from the hotel.

“Faded, Jaded and Peeling”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 September 2008

We booked here for few nights en route to the Lot region for the main part of our holiday. We wanted to explore Orleans and the local area.

First impressions were of a fading and very neglected (but modern design) hotel which was in need of some serious renovation. Roadworks, barriers, cones, and earthworks in front of the hotel added to the poor initial impression. Local golfers cars occupied all of the parking spaces anywhere near the hotel itself, meaning a hike with bags.

We arrived slightly early (on a Monday) for check-in and decided to try and take a light lunch in the restaurant. This was a mistake. Indifferent staff and a poor choice meant we left before ordering, pursued by some of the 10000 flies which were buzzing around the tables.

Back at reception, we were told our room would be ready by 1400 (fair enough - their normal check in time), so we waited for another 40 mins in the peeling reception area. Some sign of life behind the bar or the opportunity to order a drink never materialised. We were the only people in reception, and in plain view of the receptionist, who kept her head down. So we sat and sat.

1400 came and went, and when I enquired about the room, was told it was ready!!! (couldn't Mme have called across reception to tell us this?).

Except the (pokey) room wasn't ready, was it?. When I unlocked the door, the room was still in a completely unmade state with piles of dirty linen, bags of rubbish etc. No-one could tell us when it would be ready, and the room maid thought that the whole thing was amusing. At this point I had a sense of humour failure, and I asked to speak to the manager. After our long journey, my wife was now in tears. Our 7 year old daughter, who has by now stayed in loads of hotels, just looked confused and tired. This was a new and unpleasant experience for her.

The long and short of it was that we were upgraded to one of the self-catering cottages on-site, which suited us fine, and meant we could go to the local E Leclerc and stock up with food, obviating the need to visit the restaurant again, and giving us and more space to boot.

In short, don't stay here - no really, don't. Even without our check-in problems, the hotel is awful.

Oh, and don't be fooled by the promise of an indoor pool. It exists, but as we found after trekking over to it, only allows kids to swim at certain very prescribed times of the week. And the (unheated) outdoor pool in the cottage area is tiny.

However the self-catering cottages are OK, but I am basing this review on the accommodation type we originally booked.

“Good stopover for families but wouldn't stay as main holiday”

We stayed on the way down and on the way back from the south of France. We needed somewhere which would accommodate 2 adults and 2 small children (all the campanile type places we looked at would only allow 3 in each room). Our friends booked adjoining rooms at a different hotel and were told when they got there that they were not adjoining.

We stayed in a 'cottage' which has a sitting room which can sleep 2 people downstairs and a bedroom upstairs. We had read the trip advisor reviews before we left so we were not surprised by the smell of cabbages and the floor that needed a bit of a clean! There is a fridge and 2 hob rings and a microwave as well as some very basic cooking implements but if you plan ahead it's enough to cook something simple like spaghetti carbonara and breakfast in the morning. This obviously saves a lot of money and guarantees you a decent standard (if you can cook).

This hotel was ideal for what we needed. We arrived the kids and my husband jumped in the pool while I cooked and then the kids went to sleep upstairs. We moved them into the sitting room when we went to bed, so that we had a proper bedroom. I wouldn't recommend this for a longer stay but at £80 for 4 of us, without having to eat out, it was ideal for a stop over. The rooms could do with a lick of paint but it wasn't bad by French standards

P.s put the name of the road in via Michelin rather than the postcode and its quite easy to find

Time to invest in some paint! This property hasn't been maintained it would seem since the early 90s when built....finger prints on walls, around light fixtures, peeling wallpaper, sad looking stuffed deer and wild boar heads..the staff were pleasant at the hotel, but at the spa and golf club, they were not too service oriented..felt like a French government office. The food was cafeteria standard, if that.

“be ready to sweat”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 July 2007

My husband and I stayed for one night at this hotel. The personal was friendly and breakast was excellent, but in Paris -and Orleans was similar- the temperature was 33 Celsius and the room HAD air condition, but "we do not put it until mid july".

On would think that the night of the 14th to the 15th is mid july, especially at these temperatures.

The rooms were reasonably clean for French standards, so as the brakfast service> a couple of small roaches in the room, sinding back two coffe cups and to knives because there was food stuck to them, but these are not exceptionally things there

They were, though, very frinendly and efficient in handling the reservation and departure and there was amply park space
