this is essentially a motel on quite a big road. Staff are civil and beds seem to be stripped every day but there was a bit of a whiff on entering reception, bathrooms could be a lot cleaner and the undersides of white soft slippers were grubby after padding about in the room for a night. The corridor carpet was pretty grubby and there is not enough "extracurricular" cleaning. Unappealing orange decor, teenage girl in our party found her room creepy. Breakfast is not cheap but beware if you are not an early riser: once it's gone it's gone. Most of the guests seemed pretty happy but it is not for the fastidious.

Travelling from the south of France a friend had stated Moulins was a good place for an overnight stop while travelling back to the UK. Mercure Hotels are a major chain and usually reliable so I booked this hotel well in advance. Plus points: Huge beds, clean rooms great breakfast and if booked in advance can get a really good rate (compared to the UK), good views. Downside: 10km out of town, pool not open when we were there, a source of dissapointment when travelling with a six year old, very ugly exterior.
Staff were friendly and Moulins is indeed a nice town to visit, if you have not got a car though and stay at this Mercure, you won't be visiting it!
