“WE HAVE 2 APARTMENTS AND LOOK AFTER MANY FRIENDS PLACES IN ANTEQUERA, SENT MANY PEOPLE THERE, SERVICE ON SHOESTRING”
We genuinely used to love dining at this place, it has one of the best views. As we look after many friends homes in the town of Antequera, there was always someone to send for a nice meal.
However, for the last few occasions, it has got steadily worse.
I totally agree that they do not have control over appallingly behaved guests children, and as this is sold as a SILENCIO hotel, it makes a somewhat irony...
It is simple, you ask the guests parents to please control the children as this is a Silencio hotel were people visit for peace and quiet.
This best describes our last visit which happened a few months ago, but should serve as a warning, as the restaurant is far from cheap.
We drove the 20kms or so to the hotel and there were lots of noisy guests who were there for a wedding. We did not react to this.
We waited ages to be be served. So, eventually called a young waiter to order a drink. When he arrived he asked if we would like pudding?? We explained we had not even ordered a drink, whereupon, language barrier I guess, he asked if we were I quote, "off the streets". Ha!
No, not streetwalkers I am afraid, I think he meant non-residents.
Anyway, it was a scorcher, so we ordered a jug of sangria. Waited another 15mins, and what came, being local residents, we know this, was what is often sold in the supermarkets here Tinto Verano, a cross between pop and lemonade.
It sells for 1 euro per 1.5 litre bottle and we know the costs of the hotel of normal sangria is about 12 euros!
So, we called over the waiter again, and said this is not sangria but supermarket Tinto Verano, yes he says, getting annoyed.
So....we asked again for sangria. Another 10 mins wait, whereupon he brought some dastardly beverage. We called him over yet again, and by now he was pretty rude and annoyed with us, asking what's wrong now???
With this level of attitude I then called for a small Spanish girl waitress, and explained what had happened, but by now we had sat the best part of an hour and John my husband went to find menus.
It was getting rather annoying as the male waiter and his friend were both on their mobile phones instead of attending to diners.
We ordered food and in the risotto which tasted very nice was a hair, unfortunately I found this at the end of the dish....
We just couldn't wait to leave, they try to run a 4 star hotel on a shoestring staff, which is a false economy. If you are paying 12 euros for some rice, you want it not only to taste well but to be served well too.
I was livid by the time we returned and we spent 43 euros on a disaster of a meal.
So....I wrote and said this was such a disappointment that I would like my money back.
I explained what we had found, and eventually just ended up ordering 2 glasses of hourse wine, giving all hope of someone knowing - in Spain - how to make Sangria.
Anyhow, I wrote and they said yes, they would credit me, then I had a note saying they wanted my receipt which I could not find. So, I did not get my money back. The owner said to attend a meal with him to explain fully what went on, and I asked for a suitable date after a couple of weeks as I had broken my wrist, but they did not get back to me. I wrote further and got nowhere with my refund.
They do not value repeat clients....It is not a great road from Antequera to La Joya - infact it is a bit dangerous due to road slips but one thing is for sure - I will not recommend all the visitors we know to try it.
At the last email all I received was sarcasm.
