“Not the same!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2010

We have visited El Rompido for 5/6 years in a row and in the last two years the standard in the hotel has dropped significantly. It is now more of a three star budget hotel than advertised as a luxury four/five star hotel. It needs refurbishment and more value for money. The food is now only average and the regular staff have left as it is now under new management. They also try and sell cava as champagne for 12 euro a glass and when I asked for 'cava' not 'champagne' I got the same glass for 4 euro! Staff are overall very nice however I feel management have let this hotel down. Will now look for another hotel to spend our holidays in.

“Nightmare”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 July 2010

went 2 years ago had a fantastic holiday. This time was a real nightmare!!! your pay for a 5 star hotel but they let their sister hotel use all facillites. Pool surrounded by guests from hotel next door, didnt have sunbeds or sunshades on some days, there was even a fight round the pool one day between 10 French Guys from the hotel next door and a English Guy over a sunbed UNBELIVEABLE, my 9 year old daughter started crying and hotel director took no action. Do not be fooled by this hotel advertising 5 star, really has gone down hill. The hotel even lets the people from the hotel next door come in and eat in your restaurant on certain nights and when this happened the food quality severly dropped in standard. I have never complained in my life but i wouldnt want anyone to have a holiday like we did. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!!!!!!!

“Very touristic hotel, overrated, too crowded”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 July 2010

We booked 4 days (3 nights) at this hotel at the end of our vacation because it was advertised as a oasis of peace and quiet. We only stayed 1 night and got the hell out of this place.

Although this is a beach and golf resort, you don't have any beach at all, you can't even see the beach. The golf course appears magnificent but there is nobody there to golf. And although it looks all green, pure nature, it is hardly calm and quiet. The area is dominated by the hotel, screaming children and loads of tour operator guests.

The hotel is not clean as well. The pool area is a nightmare and not what you expect from a 5 star place. The pool area is also too small to facilitate the number of occupants of the hotel. The area around the pool is not clean (dirt, cigarettes and paper lying everywhere) and there is STUFF floating in the pool due to the fact that the water is the pool is not circulating. You don't see any staff or maintenance personnel. The entire hotel is practically running on a group of young french students that are there to entertain tour operator guests. They noticed the problem with the pool but were unable to find any maintenance staff to fix it. Took half a day before they scooped it out. Water was still not circulating when we left.

Stay away if you want peace and quiet. This is your place to go if you want crowded tour operator hotel.

“A good nights sleep!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2010

We stayed 4 nights at this hotel from the 30th December 2009 to the 3rd January 2010. It was bigger than we expected with large grounds. We had a suite which was very comfortable although it would have been nice to have a matrimonial bed instead of twins. Tea/Coffee making facilities are not a norm in Spain but would have been an advantage. The lighting was poor but the beds were comfy and it was very quiet although the hotel was busy and we slept extremely well. The bars and restaurants are fine and the breakfast very good. We had the New Year gala dinner which wasn´t bad although a bit pricy but generally we enjoyed it. It is a modern hotel therefore there isn´t a lot of atmosphere, many come for the golf but we just came to relax. The gym was a little small with a few machines which didn´t always work however the Spa staff were very helpful. The Spa is very small so can be quite crowded and it is near impossible to swim in the indoor pool. There are no changing rooms so it is advised to come already in your dressing gown. You have to buy a hat at 3 euros to be able to enter. There are plenty of car parking places and an underground one if you want to pay. The hotel is not in the village so you have to drive there or you can take a leisurely walk in the daytime which takes about an hour through the grounds and by the river. It is not situated by the beach but by the estuary but the sea is visible and is only a short drive away. The village of El Rompido is small and was very quiet when we were there but we did find a few restauants open. If you don´t want to drive then you would need to eat in the hotel which isn´t cheap. There is a petrol station very close by. The staff were friendly and helpful and the area is lovely albeit quiet but we enjoyed our stay.
