“Quiet, silent and restful--but NOT IN Caceres (the city)”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 October 2008

First, I booked this thinking it was in Caceres. It is not. It is just outside of Brozas (according to the highway signs that said, you are leaving Brozas). It is outside of town, on a strip of land that reminds one of WHY the conquistadores left this wasteland. Nice room, large and clean but the towels were the worst of our trip (and we stayed at far cheaper places too). I'd be embarassed to use them at home. The restaurant on site is nice but for the money--way overpriced. Since there are no real choices, you just suck it up. Dinner (without a bottle of wine) for two, cost more than the room.
Staff was very accomodating. Hotel does not put signs up on roads, according to front desk, finding it tacky. Give me tacky. If we hadn't been fluent in Spanish I doubt we'd ever have found it. Even the GPS was puzzled by sin/numero address. Breakfast was excellent.

  • Liked — The breakfast.
  • Disliked — Location, tacky towels--overpriced food--isolation

“Fantastic Find”

We stayed at the Convento Le La Luz in July of 2008. We had two rooms (for family of five - 2 adults/three teenage boys). The property is an old converted monastary. It has been beautifully restored. The rooms were large and well appointed. The restaurant was excellend. The staff was very friendly. The hotel has a great ambience with its thick walls, interesting architecture and old features like wells, etc.

  • Liked — Beautiful building and lots of character
  • Disliked — A bit out of the way

“A relaxing and very comfortable place.”

Just spent a few days over Easter at the Convento de la Luz. It is a great base to see the area, as well as a nice place to relax. Its locations, helps you feel that you are away from it all.

We had a very large, comfortable room. It had everything that you would want. The staff was very helpful and I would highly recommend the restaurant. The food is great. Breakfast is a buffet of breads, yogurts, local hams and cheeses as well as fruit. During our stay, it was served in the old chapel, which also serves as a function hall for event, which was on the cold side.

I am sure it is even nicer during the summer, when the pool is open. Which would also give one the option of sitting outside for breakfast.

The Covento offers many of the comforts that ar eon par with more expensive hotels.

  • Liked — Very helpful staff.
  • Disliked — While breakfast was very good, the old chapel where it was served was cold.

“Parador-like at a bargain price”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 September 2007

We stayed 2 nights at the Convento de la Luz as a base to see Caceres on one side(20km) and then a day in Portugal (Monsanto--1.25 hours away) in the other direction. The hotel is a 17th century convent that has been luxuriously converted to Parador level. It is on the out-skirts of the village of Brozas so you need a car to get there. The setting is in the country with expansive views, and the building is wonderfully restored. Both the room and the public areas were excellent. We actually liked this place better than the Parador at Oropesa which we stayed at next.

A quite satisfactory breakfast was included("heavy continental", meaning cheeses and cold meats included) and we ate at its restaurant one evening which was very good--- worth the $60 tab for 2 with a moderate wine.

We paid under 60 euros/night with breakfast, and think it was a terrific bargain. We learned of the hotel through the euroresidentes.com link for Caceres.

  • Liked — parador like ambiance
  • Disliked — pool was out of service in september
