My friend and I stayed at Nova Senia last weekend. We chose it because of the price (50 euro, VAT and breakfast included), its location between the nature protected areas of Ports de Beceit and Delta del Ebre, and because ir is a brand new hotel.
First the pros: brand new building, furniture and decoration. The rooms are REALLY spaceous and, if you specify it in the reservation, you can get one with views to the fields of olive trees and the neighbohouring mountain racks. The breakfast is buffet type with cold and warm food, yogurts, pastries, toasts, fresh fruit...but not fresh juice (pity!). There's a restaurant which serve a not exotic but unexpensive lunch menu (11€) and gets quite popular at night. Free parking place available too. Professional staff.
As for the cons...the rooms are too standarised and lack of a personal touch. A closeby rural hotel in the village of Rossell has cosy rooms and great chef at similar price (I thint the name is Casa Joan). We visited it for a couple of "tapas" and the owner showed us the rooms.
The village La Senia is far from stylish and is total unattractive. However, the locals are very friendly and there is a butcher's close to the church which sells exquisite home made products. La Senia also hosts the nature park visitor centre, which is quite handy if you want to do some trekking around the beautiful surroundings (which we did!).
Best season to visit this area is autumn, before the leaves fall off the trees. The forest gets incredible yellow tones! If the season has been rainy you will find many rivers and ponds.
