“Amazing place with fantastic hosts.”

We had an unfortunate start to our holiday. We lost a bag containing mobile, bank cards and holiday money en route to Le Ducrie. Viv and Joe couldn't do enough for us. When our chips were down they were truly amazing.
We stayed in la chambre salle de monnais, a room with immaculate decor in keeping with its rich history. There was plenty of room for two adults and two children. We all slept soundly in comfortable beds.
Food was excellent, with plenty of croissants, bread, ham, jam etc on offer at the breakfast table.
The children had fun riding around on their bikes, feeding the ducks, playing on the outdoor chess set, playing with the dogs and going out exploring the extensive grounds.
Its in a fantastic location for exploring Bayeaux and the Normandy beaches.
We were very well looked after and were treated as if we were old friends. We can certainly see why Le Ducrie has so much repeat business. We will defiinitely be going back.

Room Tip: All rooms of a high standard. Our kids shared a sofa bed in our room. Contact owners direct to get...

“The highlight of our vacation”

La Ducrie is a beautiful and historic castle that the owner proprietors, Vivien and Joe, have made incredibly comfortable and welcoming. We had connected rooms with our kids, but each room had its own modernized bathroom.

Vivien and Joe create an experience for their guests that is personal and unique. We were enriched by the opportunity to get to know people from other parts of the world. We have 12 & 14 year old daughters and the experience of enjoying laughter and conversation each evening over a delicious home-cooked dinner with other guests--two couples from England and a French teenager there to learn more English--was a life experience we will never forget.

We also loved Joe's tour of the key places to visit in Normandy, which he was able to cover all in a day because of his familiarity with the roads and his expertise at telling the story of D-Day from site to site. We met wonderful people on the tour. Joe introduced us to his friend at the American cemetary and our family was honored to be invited to help lower the flag.

As we left town we had Joe's excellent directions to take us to see the Bayeaux tapestry, which was beautiful with a great audio to explain it. Very worthwhile and best to do this first thing in the morning.

We followed up on our Normandy trip with a trip to Hastings in England where we saw the Battle field where William the Conquerer, of Normandy, defeated England's King Harold-- the story told in the tapestry! We also saw the Dover Castle where much of the D-Day attack was planned and prepared. Great to visit these two areas and learn the stories of the Battle of 1066 and WWII on the same trip.

Room Tip: book early for the best rooms but all rooms are comfortable and excellent

Joe and viviene are great hosts who made us very welcome during our stay. The rooms are very quiet and at a high standard. The evening meals were exceptional. It was equivalent to a top resturant. A lovely location in a wonderful area of Normandy. Will definately visit again. Highly recommend.

“A Wonderful B&B in Normandy”

My wife and I spent 2 nights at La Ducrie the beginning of June and wish we had spent more time there. Located close to the village of Le Hommet-d'Arthenay the history of La Ducrie dates back to the 1400's and Louis XI and the owners, Joe and Vivienne, are well-versed in that. The service was exceptional and we felt like family during our stay. The room we stayed in was spacious, comfortable, quiet and full of character and the breakfasts were very good with a nice assortment of fresh breads, jam, ham, cheese, coffee, tea, etc. There is also a pond with black swans, ducks and beavers that connect to a moat that surrounds La Ducrie. The owners know the area very well and can recommend places to eat, sights to see and short-cuts to get there. We will definitely stay here again on our next trip to France and highly recommend La Ducrie as a base for staying in the Normandy area.

“What a great Experience”

This is an experience that was the highlight of a trip to France. Joe and Vivian made me feel at home from the moment of arrival. They have an amazing gift of hospitality. The accommodations are warm and inviting. Joe is an experienced guide for the area and certainly is up to date on all aspects of the history of the invasion. He makes it all come to life. Vivian is a fantastic chef and together the evening meals were 5 star in every aspect. This was an experience I would do again.
