“Nice enough and good value but could do so much better if refurbished”

I stayed here to attend a meeting at the nearby St Vincent's Hospital. It is an affordable hotel and it was nice of them to upgrade me to a 2 bedroom apartment (but a little unnecessary as I was travelling alone!) The staff was very friendly and helpful with directions, maps, info, suitcase storage etc. I'd have to stay the hotel is at the dodgy end of Brunswick Street and there were drunken folk loitering around on the street. However it is only a few minutes walk to some fabulous restaurants and shops and I really enjoyed the experience having never been to this part of Melbourne before.

The room was spacious and well equipped, especially the kitchen, and I appreciated the free Wifi very much. However it could have done with updating as the decor was very 1980s and the living room furniture in particular was a bit shabby.

I didn;t use the pool but that looked nice and the courtyard could be a really great feature of this place.

Overall, I would stay here again but I do believe they could do so much better

“Great location at affordable price, good room size, great staff”

The Metropole is located in the always excellent Brunswick St, a short tram ride to the city. Rooms are basic and sparsely furnished but, for the price, quite roomy.

The staff are excellent. I left my wallet in the taxi on the way to the Metropole and the desk staff immediately helped phone the cab company, allowed me to check in sans credit card etc. They really tried hard. So on the basis of service above an beyond I am making them my favorite budget option in a great location.

“Excited to be returning to Metropole Hotel Apartments”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 September 2010

We love Metropole. Stayed here in March and are looking forward to returning in October. Originally we arrived at Metropole Hotel Apartments because we booked at a nearby Quest who did not honour our booking because they had lost the paperwork!
We were going to a wedding and wanted accommodation within walking distance to the venue in East Melbourne. Metropole ticked all the boxes - reception staff were very professional with a genuinely friendly smile, chechin procedure was quick, the room was great, very clean and spacious. When arriving at our room the thoughtful housekeeping staff had put the airconditioning on and it was wonderful as it was very hot outside and we were not in a good mood and upset due to having to move across from the other property. After cooling down in the pleasant surroundings we headed of to the venue making it with time to spare. Security parking was included in the rate and the lift went right through from the basement level up to our room.
Fitzroy is so close to the city we really enjoyed walking around. Lots of restaurants and coffee shops in Brunswick Street to suit all tastes and budgets. We had Sunday brunch at Madame Sou Sou outside in the sunshine. We can't wait for our return in October.

“Pleasantly surprised”

As my review title says, I was pleasantly surprised by the Metropole apartments. We only ended up here because the place we had booked into was overbooked so they canceled our reservation on us at the last moment. The photo's on their website look daggy and I was not really impressed at the thought of staying here but there aren't many other options in Fitzroy. We stayed in a standard 2 bedroom apartment on the ground floor. The place was immaculately clean and the kitchen and bathroom appear to have been recently redone so they were lovely and new. The living room was very spacious, as was the second room but the master bedroom was a bit compact. The only negative comment I would make is that the furnishings are a bit daggy (fashion wise), the lounge and the bedcovers in particular, which were all floral and a little bit "hello 1992". If they replaced these then this place would be absolutely outstanding. The location is also great. I love Brunswick Street and this would have to be the best place to stay if you want to be in this area.

“Hidden treasure on Brunswick Street”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 April 2010

I travelled here twice for business. The rooms were very comfortable and spacious. The location was great, nice to just walk down a few blocks to the centre of Brunswick street's great restaurants. Free wireless internet was great, except one stay I had a room up the back of the hotel, struggled to get any internet there. I wouldn't bother with breakfast there, the restaurant isn't even big enough to accomodate all their guests.
