“Absolutely awful”

Went here on a recommendation, from friends who had visited some years before. Since then, the hotel has either changed hands, lost interest or whatever. Arrived, all very friendly, would we like to choose what we wanted to eat that evening (strange). Decided to sit by the pool (deserted), had a beer each (4.2 - 6 euros, depending on brand, small bottle). Visited by the manageress (?), one dish unavailable that evening. Further visit 30 mins later, substitute dish unavailable - starting to feel uneasy, and the pool was filthy.

Turned up for a pre dinner drink - help yourself, no gin, no sherry, no ice. All appeared eventually - 8 euros for one gin! Meal, at 29 euros each, was a disgrace. Mushrooms with ham tasted as if it was from a tin, freshly grilled minature vegetables were very bland, and certainly not minature (this was a substitute anyway). Paella was so awful we sent it back (rice not cooked, 'normal' ingredients not there). Sweets moderate, probably out of the freezer, cream from an aerosol. Wine OK, but overpriced - given a sample to taste in my water glass!

Room was spacious, clean but dated. No tea/coffee facilities, no fridge, no water, no satellite tv (remote didn't work either), aircon thermostat didn't work - so either too hot or too cold. Internet access available, if you paid through the nose (previous two/three star hotels free).Where did those four stars come from?

So all in all, a hotel from hell. Only one other guest, which should have said it all. We were booked for two nights, but only stayed the one, and had a very enjoyable night in Seville instead. A huge disappointment - lovely place, lovely setting, but stuck in a time warp, with Fawlty Towers tendencies. Until it changes hands, don't go there!

this hotel is located a good 15 odd km from the city centre. its located among the beautiful countryside of sevilla. the hotel was a huge warehouse/ factory converted into a sort of boutique hotel the drive way to the hotel a is beautiful, there is avery unique bonsai sort of orange tree that is very nice. the rooms are large an airy. the have a ridding ring with the premises. all the vegetable etc are grown behind the hotel by the hotel. thw swimming pool is set amongst the landscape of trees and garden. it looks really nice. since the hotel is actually outside of sevilla on the counrtyside its very quiet an serene. the hotel staff are very helpfull and will arrange for all your needs. there is how ever a little language problem. a perfect get away for honeymooners who are looking at just being in resort an not wanting to roam around to much

  • Liked — the entrance and the courtyard and the entire place
  • Disliked — distance from the main city

“Peaceful Hotel”

This hotel has the wow factor when you drive into the courtyard
The receptionist was very helpful spoke perfect English showed us round the hotel. We thought if rather strange that when we arrived at 4 pm we had to book our evening meal. Attention to detail is lacking throughout the hotel. One of the beds in our room wasnt made up and we had to ask for light bulbs to be replaced. Bedroom and bathroom were clean. The meal we had for dinner was not good - it was very expensive for a plate of meatballs and mixed veg which were overcooked. I think it had been frozen and then reheated in the microwave. The pate was 10 euros and was not home made. The cheapest wine was
27 euros for an ordinary bottle. Its a pity that the room was not very inviting - only two other tables were occupied. Lovely linen napkins and tableclothes - lovely wine glasses but not polished.
We did eat on Sunday night so perhaps it was the chefs night off.
The water in the bathroom took forever to get warm - it never became really hot.
Breakfast was average. This could be a really lovely place to stay if the meals were better and reasonably priced. Overall not very good value.

“Lovely place to stay”

We stayed here at the end of August. It is about 20 - 30 minutes drive from Seville, so near enough if you want to make day trips to the city but relax in the country in the evening, or just lounge by the pool. The grounds are beautiful and you can see Seville's skyline from the hotel. The staff are courteous and very helpful, and everything was very clean. There are two self help bars which are a great idea. The food in the retaurant is good. We stayed in the junior suite, which had separate living area with TV and a great roof terrace.

“Hotel Cortijo Aguila Real - Great Place, but not value”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 August 2008

This place is stunning to look at! The pictures in the brochures and on the web are exactly right and probably dont do justice to how stuning to look at thisplace is.

We loved the peace and quiet of the places. The rooms were big and clean.

They even have there own bull ring. Although its not been used in a long time.

The reception table is amazing. Its an old plough (Pre-iron age) it should be in a museum, if you understand the meaning of the age of this you will be completely impressed as I was.

This place is truely in the countryside. ONLY GO HERE IF YOU HAVE A CAR.

Its about 20 - 30 mins drive from Seville.

But there are some downsides.

The roms are a bit tired, this place looks like it had its hey day first a century ago when it was built (As i said its magnificent) and then again in the 1970's. there is a picture of the owner meeting King Juan Carlos and its got a 70's feel about it.

The problem is that the rating of the hotel is 4*, the pricing is 5*
The restaraunt needs to be booked in the morning for a meal in the evening and was also very pricey, but we did not try it so cannot comment on quality.

One evening we went to the small town nearby, Guillena I guess. We found a very nice family run restaurant. But most of the places are "Spit and sawdust" kind of places.

But you really need to think about going all the way back to Seville if you want a decen choice of places (This is what we did)

So in Summary. We liked the hotel, but the price did not justify the rooms.

  • Liked — Its History and hotel Beauty
  • Disliked — The rooms - level of decor and finish not up to scratch
