“food nothing special”

went here on a Groupon voucher for a 2 course meal for two as it is really close to where I live. The place is lovely and very picturesque. when you enter the grounds there is a barrir, and a sign at the side saying "automatic barrier" so you just drive straight up to it and it opens. It isn't well signposted inside to the restaurant,b ut I managed to find the bar and was led to the Restaurant. We were the only people in there but it was laid out beautifully and they lit a fire for us. I ordered whitby haddock. It came out black, overcooked and VERY bland. I didn't eat it all and when the waitress asked if everything was ok I explained it had been overcooked and was bland. She apologised and said she would let the chef know. I thought as we had already pre paid, they would offer us a free coffee or dessert, but no...... I never saw the waitress again!!!!!
I walked out to my car and got in and drove to the barrier, it was snowing quite heavy by this time. I waited for the barrier to automatically open, but nothing! then I noticed a sign saying I needed to get an exit code to leave the grounds!!! so much for the automatic barrier. I had to drive back to the Hotel reception and get a code. I wouldn't bother going again, very disappointing.

“TINY BEDROOM”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

Everything about this hotel was perfect apart from the size of our room. All the rooms are named and ours was called Baize. Both the bedroom and the en suite were unacceptably small. We would not return to this hotel if we had to stay in the same room again.

“I can honestly say I have never felt so uncomfortable in my life!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

My mother and I went for afternoon tea at the hotel with my two children. From the minute we entered the hotel we were uncomfortable. There was a wedding reception in progress and we had to pick our way through the guests to get to the room where afternoon tea was being served and even had to walk through the bridal party having photo's taken which was unpleasant for everyone. I would not have been happy if on my wedding day people were tramping through my photo's! We were shown to our table which was right next to an open fire. The atmosphere in the room was very awkward, I think partly from the fact that we were all crammed into a very small room and partly because the other guests frowned upon the fact that there were two small children in attendance! I had asked wether children were welcome at the time of booking, I was reassured that they were and a highchair would be provided for my youngest (which it wasn't) Children are very obviously not welcomed as the other guests looked down their noses at my very well behaved children. Also I was concerned at the proximity of the open fire. Despite the afternoon tea having been booked and paid for we felt so uncomfortable that we decided to leave after five minutes.

“Civil Partnership”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

We held our civil partnership here in January, the whole day went without a hitch, very well organisd , thanks to Jessica and Marco, accomadated and fed 50 day guests and 70 evening guests with no hitches. Food was excellent, rooms were excellent , quite a few guests stayed over.

Would totally recommend.
