I've stayed in Poggio del Sole many times and the hospitality of Luca and Flavia just can't be beaten. Rooms are simple but immaculate, and the larger two-room suite is perfect for families. The restaurant has the best food in the area, and that's saying something for this part of Italy. Try the gnocci in a jar and the mezzeluna ravioli with honey and nuts. You won't eat better in a Michelin starred establishment.
The hotel is in an out of the way location, but don't be put off by the winding and highly rural road taken to get there, it's worth it! In an evening take drinks up to the rooftop terrace and watch the sunset over Maiella and Gran Sasso.
You're only five minutes away from Citta Sant'Angelo, one of the prettiest little cobbled hilltop towns in Abruzzo, and 20mins away from a large shopping mall and the sea and all the delights of Silvi Marina. In the winter it's also about 45mins from the nearest ski resort too with easy access to Pescara.
I really would recommend highly if you're in the area.
