“Best view in the area and fantastic hospitality”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

I've stayed in Poggio del Sole many times and the hospitality of Luca and Flavia just can't be beaten. Rooms are simple but immaculate, and the larger two-room suite is perfect for families. The restaurant has the best food in the area, and that's saying something for this part of Italy. Try the gnocci in a jar and the mezzeluna ravioli with honey and nuts. You won't eat better in a Michelin starred establishment.

The hotel is in an out of the way location, but don't be put off by the winding and highly rural road taken to get there, it's worth it! In an evening take drinks up to the rooftop terrace and watch the sunset over Maiella and Gran Sasso.

You're only five minutes away from Citta Sant'Angelo, one of the prettiest little cobbled hilltop towns in Abruzzo, and 20mins away from a large shopping mall and the sea and all the delights of Silvi Marina. In the winter it's also about 45mins from the nearest ski resort too with easy access to Pescara.

I really would recommend highly if you're in the area.

“A lovely little hotel with great food”

Stayed for one night but could have easily enjoyed longer. Booked through Venere. The place is in a very quiet location about ten minutes drive from Pescara. It is in the countryside and we had a room with a lovely view. Room was basic, but large and clean and a new bathroom.

We stayed for dinner and had great food. It is worth traveling there just to sample the fantastic roast potatoes!

Breakfast was typically Italian - a pastry and a coffee.

The staff were very helpful.

Only problem is finding the place. The sigposting is is bit haphazard and it would be very difficult to find after dark, so check the directions carefully.

“Almost hesitating to let out this best kept secret!”

I have stayed in Poggio twice -once in Winter with my partner and once in Summer with my family, including parents. Each time was different but equally excellent. Poggio del Sole is a country house around 2k outside of Citta S'Angelo, a mountain village near to Pescara. It is family-run with around 6 rooms/suites in traditional Italian decor, but also modern and very clean and comfortable. The big thing with Poggio, though, is the on-site restaurant. Luca and his family take an enormous pride in the food that they serve and the wines which go with it. It is a pure joy to eat there, and an experience which I cannot wait to repeat. The courses keep coming and the wines change accordingly. It is a very popular place for local familes to come, so you know the food is good! I would love the time and space to describe the food in detail! Luca is a wonderful host, very friendly and seeing to your every need - guests become part of the family. And the cost of the room and food is so cheap in terms of the value you get for your money. On site for the kids is small play area with swings etc, and a tennis court and archery. And the scenery is magnificent - the vineyard next door is a great taster of Italy, but it is the mountains which completely steal the show. The views of the mountains from Poggio are simply breathtaking. If you want a change of scenery, there are lots of other restaurants in Citta. Enjoy! I can't wait to get back. I should say, however, that it is fairly difficult to find from Pescara airport - you will need to get directions beforehand.

“Loved it, Loved it & Loved it.”

Poggio Del Sole is a small family run hotel with a beautiful view and friendly atmosphere. The hotel has nice clean rooms, with breathtaking views of the town and bay below but it is the people that make this hotel what it is. From the moment we arrived Giuseppe, the oldest son, made us feel so welcome. Every evening we would stroll down to the restaurant were Mama would cook us an authentic Italian meal. Giuseppe & Lorenzo would move from table to table pouring glasses of there homemade wine and lemon cello and making sure everyone of the guest felt like they were part of the family. By the end of the first evening the entire dinning room had converged into one big table and everyone felt like old friends. During my time in Europe I fell in love with so many places but Ischia is the one that I know I will return to.
Dee.
