“Perfect Peace”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

Set in one of the most picturesque, parts of Scotland - feels remote but is only 18 miles from the A9 - this hotel is well worth a visit, especially for those who value peace and quiet.

The staff are excellent - 9.5 out of ten, the only gripe being a misunderstanding over the bill - which should not have happened. Everything else was perfect.

Recommended.

Room Tip: Ask for loch view. You will regret it if you don't!

“Off-Season Silence”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

I bet this place is buzzing in summer. It's right on the edge of the Loch with stunning views of the mountains beyond. My visit was in the dead of winter which had its own merits. Mainly that it was deadly quiet; the handful of guest that were staying were amply served by the staff that were on.

Despite the football in the bar area, I was struck by the calm that flowed through the place. I spent the evening in the pool and steam room (which is excellently hot) then enjoyed a paper and a pint sat before the open fire.

A good night's sleep was helped by total silence, the like of which I've never known before. And in the morning, with this being winter, we saw the sun rise over the mountains while scraping the car.

Well done to the staff for keeping the standards so high when there are so few guests to care for.

Room Tip: A view room will be worth it.

“Tranquility in the shadow of the Mountain”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2012

I need to begin to apologising for adding this review so late after my stay at MacDonalds Loch Rannoch Hotel.

My Fiancee and I stayed at Loch Rannoch at the end of May last year. We drove across Country from Aberdeen and for the most part it was a nice drive, as much as the A9 can be nice, the Roads towards the Hotel get quite tight at times but the views on the way and finally arriving to a scenic Hotel on the banks of the Loch made it worthwhile.

We were greeted by smiling, welcoming staff who had us checked-in in no time at all. I had opted for a superior room and it met my expectations. The Hotel and Room had character, was clean, the views from the room over the Loch were lovely. I could add a gripe about bigger windows would be nicer but that is nit-picking.

During our stay we left the Hotel on the short drive to the car park at the foot of Schiehallion and climbed up to the Summit upon arriving back with tired legs and being hungry we enjoyed the seating area within our room along with some wine and once readied we headed down for a meal. The meal didn't disappoint and was of good quality. Being fed and watered we relaxed in the Hotel Bar/Seating area and played some of the Board Games they had available.

I will be back to visit this hotel in the future and would recommend it to couples and people/families looking for getaways in the Countryside.

“The Great Escape”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

This was a fantastic mini break, scenery is spell binding with an endless amount of walks from Novice to Fiennes like. Hotel was ideally situated, staff very professional and friendly. Room was clean and very pleasant. Food was superb and to cap it off the dog loved it as well.

“Delightful Twixmas Birthday Break”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 January 2012

My partner and I made our second visit of the year to the MacDonald Loch Rannoch to celebrate my birthday. We stayed 3 nights from 27-30th December. We had paid for a classic double and when we arrived we didn't have a very clear loch view but asked if we could be moved which was no problem and our room was changed immediately. The room was lovely and the view of the loch and Schiehallion was breathtaking.
All the meals were excellent as we had found on our earlier visit in April. The staff work hard and are very friendly and helpful. The lounge and bar are very relaxing and there are newspapers and games to read or play. We also enjoyed the pool, gym, sauna and steam room. One evening I had the pool all to myself. It was so relaxing swimming up and down watching the snow come down outside!
On the last morning we were without hot water due to a boiler problem but another room was made available to us to shower in which wasn't a problem for us. Problems do happen but if a solution can be found quickly they are not an issue.
The location, friendliness of the staff and the excellent food means we will be back again.

Room Tip: Opt for a loch view.
